Going through a very windy morning here in Townsville (Australia) Cyclone Larry (Category 5) hit the coast at Innisfail early this morning. From reports a lot of damage has occured. Hoping all the dog fraternity from Townsville up to Cairns and inland are ok, currently the Tablelands are coping the brunt with the cyclone downgraded from 5 to 4. :(

My tribe and I spent the night curled up in my bed with the windows all taped up just incase, did lose a tree in the back yard but no damage to the house. Had a hard time convincing any of the whippets to go out for a quick pee during the eye of the cyclone - bladders over took in the end and it was a mad dash from the yard back into bed - needless to say have to change the sheets.

Wishing everyone else up the coast that they and their dogs are safe, take care.

Have been thinking of you and Lana today. Glad to hear all is well

Just saw where Johnny Howard is going up to see first hand. You should all feel safe now knowing that. If your lucky, he might even take the fridge magnets. "Be alert, cause it's a bit windy"

Anyway, hope you are all safe & well.

Hi All

Mackay is fine - we are getting some nice rain from it though. There were quite a few northerners at our shows on the weekend and many of them did not do the Sunday show because they were in a hurry to get home and batten down the hatches.

Poor Innisfail (about 7 hrs north from me, and about 2 1/2- 3hrs north of Cristina) and surrounds bore the brunt of it. 50% of the town's buildings are destroyed or damaged. The winds were up to 290 km/hr ( so yeah, ~170/180mph). I think I heard on the news that we have not had a category 5 cross the coast in a populated area since the 1918 cyclone. Larry was stronger than Tracy which devastated Darwin in 1974.

And there's more bad news ... another cyclone is building behind Larry. Currently a category 2 (but once it gets over the Coral Sea who knows how it will build) and currently following a very similar path to Larry. We will hear more and the bureau will know more about "Wati" tomorrow.
