Hi, I need some advice on the best low calorie dog food for my 3 year old daschund which is not too pricey. She needs to lose weight and I have cut down on her portion size but she still has not lost any weight. Anyone know of any reasonable low calorie dog food that will do the trick? Thanks

Have a look at www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk

It's has independent reviews of foods, you can set filters to ask for weight loss and if you put in your dog's weight, it shows daily feeding costs too.

What food is she on at the moment, and how much are you feeding her a day? Could the weight issue be because of 'extras' such as treats and rewards?

Would it be possible to up her exercise rather than cut down her food further - maybe set up a little 'dog agility' course in the house?

If she gets enough exercise but still needs to lose weight, you could simply try reducing her portion size even more and then bulking it up with vegetables. Alternatively, a raw diet can work well as it is naturally more bulky than kibble - we can give you more info on that if you're interested.

The AllAboutDogFood website ranks most dog foods: Dog Food Reviews | Find the Best Dog Food - All About Dog Food You can put in your dog's breed, age and weight and it will recommend foods and recommend amounts to eat and price per day. I can't see any filter for weight-loss foods (ETA: Cross-posted with JoanneF - looks like I didn't look closely enough 🤣 ), but I think for overweight dogs it's usually recommended to feed the amount for the weight they should be, rather than what they are.
