We always shut the whippets in the boat going through the locks for their safety. Bobby (Collie X) is OK on the back with OH steering, but all three on the back end wouldn't be safe as there isn't much room. I get to do the locks as I won't steer any more. :sweating: (OH used to be paranoid that I might scratch the paintwork and did a lot of yelling at me!!).gilliwigs said:We'd wondered about a canal holiday with the dogs but weren't sure how they would take to it but after Saturday it's something we will probably think about for the future. The only problem I can see is working the locks as I'm not happy with them around the deep drops, but I suppose they could always stay in the boat quite safely. I'll steer and my husband can do all the hard work!~Sarah~ said:We have a narrowboat and have had some great holidays and the dogs love it. They really enjoy the long walks on the towpath and we try to moor up in quiet spots in the middle of nowhere.
Last year was rather scary as we were on the Thames when it flooded, but normally canal holidays are so relaxing and you can really unwind. The dogs love being on the boat and sitting up at the front watching the world go by.
I often get off the boat with the dogs as we go under a bridge, so they can all have a great run while OH carries on, and then I jump back on at another bridge (usually throwing the whippets on (w00t) ) - I haven't fallen in yet. :- "
I would really recommend a canal holiday with dogs. Nothing better than sitting up the front with the dogs, watching the wildlife or reading a book.
