Also you can make the crate a fun place by feeding her in there with the door closed, or by giving her a stuffed kong when you close her in. So every time she goes in when she's already awake for the first while there's something really worthwhile being in there for.

The only thing with little DeeDee is, she will, and has, screamed and thrashed for an hour CONTINUOUSLY without anything more then a 15 second break, which is why it's been hard to debate whether we leave her doing it indefinately until she physically collapses from being so worked up, or whether we just give in!

I will carry on shutting her in though, I know she will get used to it eventually, and 1 in 3 times of not screaming is certainly an improvement after all :D

Thanks for your replies :)

Esme screamed for 2 and 1/2 hours the first time, 2 hours the second.............. now not at all until 6am when she thinks we should get up (w00t) . It is worth persisting- they are much safer in their crates when you can't supervise them :) . Esme now puts herself to bed when she thinks its time.
