Hello Longdogs

I am a new member here. I live with a deerhound, a saluki/ grey and a runt sized whippet in Cumbria.

The Deerhound was (and still is) hunting the whippet, so the Lurcher was adopted to give the deerhound someone her own size to pick on.This has sort of happened, but now the Lurcher bullies the Deerhound and the Deerhound bullies the Whippet and the Whippet tries to boss the Lurcher.

What to do What to do?

So does anyone know of any Cumbrian Deerhounds who might help calm my dizzy hound? :))

hiya and welcome, sounds like sighthound mayhem, but at least they can chase each other in a circle!!!!!!!!!!! :clown: jan

Yeh,

they go mental for about an hour when Im out jogging. They dont get nasty with each other, its just sometimes the whippet get cheesed off with them both.

I dont read of any deerhound owners on this site, have you met any here Javp?

Cheers Rach

is there a club anywhere in the county that you know of? My dogs could do with being intoduced to like minded hounds.

Not that i know of but u cud try goin to country fairs like Lowther Horse Trials coz folk with lurchers and other hounds as well as gun dogs go there n u cud get sum info off them?

Lurcherlink have group walks from time to time in various parts of the country and may also suggest you contact Jim (can't remember his surname) for help with your doglets....

Walks can be found in 'Travel Arrangements' but you need to sign up so they know you won't be going along to nick hounds!

I think Deerhounds are yummy and someone on there is expecting a litter!

(caused a bit of controversy as is rescue site :teehee: )

Have fun! :D

View attachment 46340Cheers for the replies. Well Rach I dont honestly want anymore Deerhounds. i know Burton in Kendal , as We have a house in the next village. If I go and see the dogs I would just end up bringing it home. Deerhounds-They are very nice dogs but as you gather I have my hands full. (I also have 2 kids to deal with !)

I will try the shows though to see if tere is anyone to get together with for a run. I think there is one this Sunday around Gosforth on the West Coast :nuke: I think there is quite an interest on the coast even as far south as Barrow. I will try the Lowther show and may be give Jim a call too.

The dogs get out 3 times a day. Once with me at about 6am for an hour, once in the day with my wife for aout 2 hours and again in the evening for an hour with myself. I have never been so fit/knackered as I am now.

Since having the dogs my wife has lost 1+1/2 stones and I can now jog 7 miles in the hills.

The Whippet trotts along infront as if to say 'for godsake man hurry up' The Deerhound crashes through the trees scaring all the deer and the Lurcher is constantly looking to give me the slip in search of fair game

So another dog would really test my skills. :(

I looked into getting one but found 850 reasons not to...all £

Wow wee Bedlam thats abit steap.

If you look for a pedigree then I was quoted about £700. We got ours for £500 as her tail was stood on as a pup so we cant show her. She is also undersized and I think they forgot to give us her brain. so thinking about it I was ripped of at £500. :b
