I would like to know everyones opinions on DESIGNER DOGS

I technically love all dogs, and i think with cross breeding is done right ( 4 generations etc..) it can be quite rewarding and beneficial.

I currently own a 4th generation cavalier king charles x shihitzu.

she looks identical to a cavalier but she has no problems at all.

she does not suffer from MDV or any other problem.

niether do any of her brothers and sisters or parents.

I believe when crosses like this are done it is benefical for the breed.

this is what is called outcrossing isnt? cross breeding to better the breed?

My biggest problem with designer dogs, is how many of them are sold through pet shops for such large amounts of money. Was picking up some dog biscuits tonight from a shop I wouldn't normally shop in. They had three pups of two different crosses, in small cages. Both litters were born around nine weeks ago. The Lab X was VERY quiet, but the other two pups were kicking up a fuss. The woman behind the counter told me it was because they knew it was tea time. They have been in that shop for 3 weeks  :( :(

As breeders why would anyone want their pups to just go to anyone that can come up with the money. I am sure that there are some very much loved family pets bought this way. I am also sure that they are creating a fast track to the animal welfare centres  :( :( :(

And you NEVER know if they really are the cross you wanted. Somebody here advertises shitzu X, poodle x, maltese x, cavalier x and if you call and ask for say cavalier x poodle they will say YES. Basicaly, what ever you are after they have it. I have seen a supposedly maltese X shitzu, which grew up looking like poodle X west highland. And buying them from the petshop you never know how they were reared. Mostly they are mass produced on a puppy farm, with the bitches bred from every season while they can, and then put down. :(

Are they not still mongrels at the end of the day but a bit more planned but just as likely to end up where most crossbred's do.....in a dog home!! :- " :- "

Don't get me wrong i love all dogs but there are enough pedigree's looking for home's without inventing so called new one's :(

Yes, but the fact that mother of these pupies is kept in a cage somewhere, taken care of by a kennel attendant, who may or may not give her bit of affection, is bred every season, and PTS when she gets too old or has problem whelping, that is what does worry me.
