My Whippet is pregnant and I don't know whether to get the pup's dewclaws removed as I know it is illegal. What does everyone think?
Also she has 9 teats, is that normal?

Get them done. It is worth the price to pay to protect the dogs from significant damage if they run in brush or bramble and injure themselves with dewclaws. Dewclaws are illegal to do in some countries (such as Denmark -- we have two Danish imports with dewclaws and we learned to vet wrap the legs of these dogs early on when running them in our back 5 acre pasture) but England still does not have a limitation and I urge you to do them. We here in Canada have our vet do them for $10 Cdn. per dog on day 1 or 2. We have owned whippets and greyhounds for nearly 30 years and only the dogs with dewclaws have had problems running in gorse. We had a black greyhound who so severely injured herself running in thickets and injuring her dewclaw and leg that it cost the modern day equivalent of 400 pounds in surgery to fix the damage done by a simple course through woodlands.Hi, It's defo not illegal to get them done.I would recomend it
I have had lots of problems over the years with one of my lurcher bitch's tearing them out all the time, poor thing
once they tear them once they seem to be more prone for it happening again.
Dew claws are nothing but trouble.
