My deerhound Angus, has snapped his dew claw and now it's sticking out at a right angle, it was bleeding but has stopped now. What shall I do until I go to the vet tommorow?

He flinches and gives a little shout when i touch it, but other than that he seems fine.

Thanks.

Hi simon, sorry about that, can you not bandage it up until tomorrow save him knocking it up any more.

keith :luck:

Hi,

My dog Hebe snapped her dew claw in half last week. It was still attached & was very sore, she even tried to bite me when I tried to look at it. Not like her at all (w00t)

The next day it came off altogether without the need for a vet. If you do bandage it up tonight to protect it then it's very important to wrap the whole foot up too, not just the dew claw bit of the foot or else the foot will swell up like a balloon :(

Hope Angus is O.K soon

Julie.

Theres not a great deal a vet can do for a snapped dew claw, my dog snapped his four times so we had them removed totally. The first couple of times I took him to the vet he just cut the broken bit off and gave us some antibiotics.

Seen the vet today, yep she just pulled it off after spraying a bit of aneasthetic on it, I'm watching him like a hawk to make sure he's not licking it. He squealed like a great jessie when she pulled it off though, poor baby. :(
