Macey has snapped her dew claws on numerous occassions from racing to playing in the house. Mind you I was going to say I don't think she will get up to too much of a speed to do any damage now - until I saw her on the park today for the first time!!! But think she has been through enough at the moment.

Also my GWP ripped his on many occassions too out in the field. He had them removed when he was 2 and it was a major ops. Glad I did it for his sake.

Definitely off and really it should be for all breeds.

Have dogs with and dogs without Dew claws here . Just wondering about which way it should be ;) With them or without ? Most of you seem to be without .

Absolutely unquestionably dew claws off!!

Of our 8, 7 have had them removed and just Alfie the rescue has his still on - I have lost count of the number of times he has torn them when running and have caused him so much pain. If he ever goes in to the vets for a GA we will ask for them to be removed.

Our pups have all had theirs removed at 3 days old and they hardly even make a squeak and are back with their Mum within seconds. Much less stressful and painful for them to be removed then than cause countless problems in the future.

One of my rescued whippets had her dew claws , the vet removed them when he spayed her . As he owns whippets himself he knows from experience it's the best thing to do .

The only 1 of mine that has dew claws on still is the ex racing greyhound. I worry about her when she is of lead that she is going to catch them. I would have thought that as she is an ex racer she would have had them removed at birth.

When the twins were born last year my vet told me that if we had another litter I must check with him first so that he can find out how he stands legally about removing them as they are trying to make it illegal to remove dew claws. I have had occassions when dew claws have grown back Simba had to have claw removed at christmas that had regrown but had grown as a very tight curl against his leg that was difficult to cut. The locum had removed the dew claws and several of the litter had claws grow back as they got older some had already gone to their new homes. I complained to the vet and the locum was sacked not only for that but other complaints he had erceived about him. My vet did say though that they are not teaching new vets how to do it properly and the locum should have told me he wasn't confident in doing it.

i always wonder how old threads get brought back up like this out of no where
it makes sense if you want to discuss an issue to do a search (click on "search" upper right hand corner of webpage) and see what has already been posted. If the old discussion isn't far too long already, it's better to add to it than to start a brand new discussion
