Hi there,

First of all I wish you all Happy New Year...

I am writing again to ask for advice... my 8 months old whippet has kind of diarrhea for few days now...its not alway typical diarrhea, but his pooh is quite runny..he started before christmas...but after few days was fine...and now he has it again...(his diet did not change though).

His appetite is good and he is very lively...as usual..

Is it normal in young whippets that they get this problem?...Could he picked something from the ground? (he licks everything...)

Today I am going to see the vet, but I am worried he will give him antibiotics,,which I would not be very happy about..(I think its bit too strong for young dog)...

Has any of you had similar experience...what would be the best to do...?

Is there any natural way how to treat diarhea?

Many thanks in advance for your help

Maja

Hi and Happy new year to you,

For a quick fix try adding some mashed potato

to his food. Also Tree Bark Powder is very good which

you can buy online from Dorwest Herbs.

Or, buy some live yoghurt for him.

Good Luck, it's probably nothing serious.

if our dogs have tummy problems, they get a light diet of plain chicken and rice for a few days, which is easy on the stomach. :luck:

My dog Oscar used to get this problem all the time as a puppy but Kobi hardly ever.

Make sure they have plenty of water so as not get dehydrated.

My dogs are on the BARF diet - you could try feeding bland food for a few days - chicken rice, pasta - it may just be a tummy bug as you say or something picked up.

Have you been feeding snacks or bones maybe or something rich - could be quite a number of things.

Hope it settles down - Im sure it will - as long as your puppy isnt showing any signs of being down in himself Im sure he will be fine.

The yoghurt advice, and Tree barks powder is very good and cleared Oscar up in no time at all.

A good thing from the vet's is Pro-Kolin. One of the pups kept getting the dreaded poo's till I discovered she'd (Angel who else?) had been eating tree cuttings off my neighbours Leylandi.

Couple of twists of the Pro-kolin and she was back to normal.

Hi, we are having a similar problem with our 6 month old lurcher pup. She will go for a few weeks o.k. and then will get the squitts for no apparent reason. This will go off & on for a few days & then she'll be back to normal. I give her slippery elm on her food when she's a bit off as I don't really want to take her to the vets as she'd end up with antibiotics. I'd rather go for the natural approach. she never seems ill and is as lively ever so I'm hoping that this is something that will get better as she gets older. BTY she is the fartyest dog we've ever had, don't know if this is connected to her digestive problems or not but any suggestions on this would be welcome.
