I hope I did the right thing...

I just carried on the walk as normal as if nothing had happened, just played as I usually do with them and ignored her behaviour.

I don't think cajooling her or putting her on the lead will help.

Any suggestion on how to deal with it??

Personally I think you are doing the right thing by carrying on as normal. Poor Dippy, I think it is time that all these stupid owners were reported. They don't seem to care what damage their dogs do. I hope Dippy starts to get her confidence back soon.

I think this is quite right. If you make an issue of it or become nervous Dippy will pick up on that. Hopefully if she sees that your other dog is happy in this situation she will quickly realise that it is not a problem.

A similar thing happened to a friend's dog last weekend. He has a very passive border collie cross bitch, Sheena, and I caught up with him talking to the owner of an older whippet.

Moments later a man approached across a playing field with a lab size black dog and said to the other man, "I had to walk across there because she attacked a little dog the other day". Un-noticed to us he then proceeded to unleash the dog while we were talking and it attacked Sheena - she tried to run away, yelping, circling us for protection while the dog was scratching and snapping at her - I found out how hard it is to catch them in this situation. It was also a bitch, which I think was why it didn't go for my boys.

The man managed to catch his dog and an argument ensued, with comments from him including - its only a puppy (didn't look like it), it's going to training classes, one I'm sorry, all dogs are aggressive and all dogs need to be let off the lead. (As previous comments made - don't do it at 9am on a regular dog walk).

He then marched off with his dog, leaving us in shock, and Sparkey too scared to come to me, as it meant passing this dog. Luckily Sheena was fine, but it did leave us badly shaken. He was long gone by the time we came to our senses.

I think Dippy is starting to get over been worried.

We went to the Dogs Trust fun day today, she met dogs she knows and was happy to see them and met alot of dogs she didn't know and was happy to sniff and greet them without panicing.

She met Jezza's (Lucy's) little Molly for the first time today and met up with Trish's lot again and she loves them three to bits.

Had a really good day yesterday, nice to see you and trish and doggies :D Dippy didn't look worried at all, she looked quite happy, got a lovely photo of her with her tongue hanging out! Tell her I'm sorry for standing on her paw though

I'm glad that Dippy seems to be totally unfazed by her unprovoked attack.

Something similar happened to our Moss (there were pics on k9,so you may remember it) not that long ago at a show, but he was'nt as fortunate as Dippy and got mauled quite badly,it has healed up very well and thankfully is hardly noticeable,BUT the one effect it has had on him is that now whenever he meets a dog he feels that he has to get in there first and protect himself so he has become very defensive and if the dog shows any signs of aggression at all Moss starts on it! I just watch him very carefully off the lead and luckily he is VERY obedient and as soon as we see other dogs we call him to us and tell him to walk to heel until we are past the dog.

We was very lucky with Dippy.

It was really nice to meet you Lucy and your family...Dippy forgives you.
