Warning to anyone going on holiday in the area of Luik, Seraing, Flémalle, Comblain-au-Pont en Oupeye in Belgium this summer or even travelling through.

At this moment there is an outbreak of canine distemper in the areas mentioned above.
Reports are that 12 foxes and one raccoon have died of the disease and vets are warning dog owners to be wary. They are worried that if the disease spread to domestic dogs they will be unable to stop an outbreak.

At this time no domestic dogs have been infected but obviously this could change with the weather getting warmer and people out in the woods with dogs more.

Just adding an update on this as more foxes have been found dead in the Venlo area of Holland on the border with Germany.

Vets are warning about stray dogs that are often spotted in the area, in recent years several strays have been found suffering from distemper in the Venlo area.

So if you are travelling through or if you are holidaying there be warey of stray dogs and /or foxes and be alert for any signs of the illness in your dog.
