Do We Have An Obligation....

I agree with Cathie 100%. When we went to rescue a greyhound from Dogs Trust, although we already had five whippets, we still had to have a visit from the dog warden and attend a half-day training course - which also gave the less experienced a chance to back out of having a greyhound once they could see the potential problems.

(Our old girl was an absolute treasure. We took her on at 9-10 years old and she lived for another 3 years with us. We still miss her very much.)

I am sure Cathie would not mind me re-posting her post of 21-02-08 on a similar topic.

This is an article I did a while ago for a magazine that has yet to be published ,Im sure they wont mind me putting it on here , It is very similar to Cathys

Both very useful and interesting references/articles. Cathie's focuses on what to do once you've found a breeder (ensuring you initially steer away from those that don't ask questions etc) and Jax's initially focuses on where to find a recommended breeder (invaluable as a lot of people don't know where to start and turn to the web I feel, which is a minefield), avoiding some of the usual pitfalls, and then similiarly goes onto what to do once you've found a breeder you're interested in.

Maybe this post could be added to FAQ, under the title, 'how do I find a whippet pup suitable for me?'. Perhaps a note could also be drafted, using the material provided by both breeders, summarizing the material from each one? Failing that, maybe Cathie's note could be extracted and pinned to the top of the Whippet forum, and Jax's could be used to read in a more in depth browse on this thread if posted to the FAQ section?

Any opinions on this? :)
