So just thought I would start a thread detailing the triumphs, tribulations and some of the outings we have while owning a boxer.

I will start with a little about dodsley, he is currently 19 weeks old and just over 14kg pretty trim and athletic as you would expect for the breed.

Today has been dodsley's first outing to the beach. We have come away for a few days upto Scarborough. Having done the research to find a dog friendly beach, it was well worth the effort. upon arriving his tail (well his stump) began to wag so vigorously he nearly knocked himself off his feet. When his feet touched sand for the first time there was a brief moment of calm that can only be described as the calm before the storm. We walked along the beach a little to find quieter spot before letting him off the lead. As soon as the lead was released, off he shot running laps around us burying his face in the sand to pick up every piece of driftwood that caught his eye. He must of consumed half his weight in sand today. That being said he seemed to love it and was so well behaved not chasing other dogs or bouncing up strangers.

I must say I'm looking forward to getting him down the beach again tomorrow. Hopefully we can tempt him to get his feet wet tomorrow.

Glad he enjoyed the beach. They don’t grow out of that excitement. Our 4 year old dog still does something resembling kangaroo jumps the minute he catches sight of the sea:D

I try to get plenty of off leash running where I can for him. He is friendly with other dogs but can't be sure with all dogs so care has to be taken. He gets off the lead once or twice a day though. We are fortunate enough for our house to back onto a quiet woodland so morning and evening walks usually include on and off leash to try and maintain good manners on and off the lead. Notice the try aspect..... he seems to have hit his rebellious phase now. Manners on lead are no longer good so currently he does not get off the lead till he is walking nice on it. He is slowly starting to accept being good is easier and better for us both.

Today's trip to the beach was certainly a success, Dodsley remembered what was coming and was instantly excited before even getting out the car.

As soon as his feet hit the sand he turned into a spring lamb bouncing on the spot unable to contain his excitement. We did have some success getting him in the sea unfortunately to do so took me being knee deep in water to tempt him to come in.he was not keen on going in past his belly though but I consider that a good start.

    Couple of pics from today

    Terrific!
If he is going to end up being a swimmer and do a lot of aquatics - I would consider having a chat with the vet. Some extra vaccinations may be a good idea.

Our vet is in favor of only necessary vaccines. But what’s necessary is determined by the life style. Getting into water all the time may mean additional exposure.

So it's been a while since my last post, my boy is growing into a cheeky playful child. 6.5 months old and weighing 22kg. Here are some photos of him keeping cool over the past few days.
