Does anyone feed their oldies on a 'senior' complete food.

Our vet recommended 'low protein' for dear old Mog. The one I am feeding is a 'senior' and has 21% protein. Is that low? I'm sure the younger dogs' food is about 26% - it doesn't seem that much of a difference.

Mog eats 'Nutro Senior Maintenance'.

oldies dont need as much protein as young dogs hun,so senior diets are usually lower in protein.ive got two oldies at the moment, but as theyre happy and healthy i just give them normal diet, meat, veggies and a good quality biscuit with a few vitamin supplements and as one of them has a severe flea bite allergy which flares up every now and then into skin trouble he gets evening primrose caps and some other supplements

:D I feed all my real oldies 10yrs plus ........... Good old tinned Chappie. Nice and low in protein. and a complete food, to boot ! :)

I feed my nine year olds and my eight year old James Wellbeloved Senior/light Ocean white fish complete.

My three year old Beagle has Davies Senior/Light chicken and rice complete cos he's a tad porky.

i have always used the age appropriate stages of any dog food for my dogs...when casper reaches 7yrs old next year i will change to james wellbeloved senior/natures diet senior

My 13 year old I have just changed onto Forthglade Lifestage Menu cos he was getting picky about the raw meats and losing weight as a consequence but because he is still pretty active I decided against the Senior and just give him the Adult one. He loves it and I've not seen him scoff his food with such enjoyment for a long time! I also tried him on the Natures Menu pouches but although he ate them he wasn't as keen, stuck to the roof of his mouth and in the bowl!!! All my other oldies just have tripe or whatever meat they have each day.

What happens to the dogs when they are on the BARf diet when they get older - just a thought. I didnt feed this to my previous whippets. Its just Oscar and Kobi are on the BARf diet and I find it quite hard to keep weight on Oscar and the opposite way round for Kobi, (hes plumper) (w00t) Ime feeding Oscar more than Kobi now - but any other suggestions to fatten him up a bit please.
