What the situation is with the WCRA's attempts to get independant DNA assessment of the alleged non-pedigree litters/dogs?

Has the Whippet Club's stance on passports now rendered that proposal a non-starter, or are there plans to still carry on and do this?

The WCRA letter (13th July) more or less said that the DNA investigation was on going.

Another question -

Who is on the committee now. Does anybody know?

and another question ....!

Given that the NPWRA was formed to give racers a "championship" meeting with the suspected non-ped dogs absent - will it be disbanded if the DNA results declare a large degree of doubt over the supposed parentage?

Of course it is entirely possible that the WCRA may accept the findings and the Whippet Club again stand by their own decision - then back to square one I guess!

The NPWRA has rather moved on from that Ian. Its about having an organisation run by the racers themselves where all the member have a vote and a voice which neither clubs nor their members have had before. Its an issue that has been running for many years and recent events have proved that pedigree racing is not really run by racing people at all. Its merely been the catalyst thats given us the kick we needed. The NPWRA is here to stay regardless.

we can only get stronger now.

Ian it is a complete breath of fresh air to pedigree whippet racing. I wish you could have joined us yesterday and seen the smiling happy people, and the great sportsmanship between the competitors. Betty Beaumont gave a little speech at the presentation, and everyone was present to collect their prizes. This has been exactly what racing has needed for some years, and we are happy now that recent events pushed us into it. The NPWRA is most definitely here to stay, and we have already taken our first vote from the racers present yesterday on whether we should run second round racing as a trial at the next Championships at Weyhill Fair. It has been suggested that it will be called "The Best of The Rest" racing, which I think is just brilliant. Result of what the racers think will be published later today I would think, probably on the NPWRA website - www.npwra.co.uk

Judging by the amount of people who joined as members yesterday, we are going in the right direction, and the majority of the racing public are happy with it

;) brilliant post Judy & June, and as Dave says the NPWRA will continue to grow

yesterdays meeting just proved how down we had all got about the current situation with the WCRA and the litter in question...correct me if im wrong...im sure someone will...but did i hear right that one of the litter clocked a 8.68 in its heat.......i know for a fact that NPRCH run at mills fastest time ever has been 9.12 over 150yrs at the champs

food for thought ;)

after the vibe we had at the NPWRA champs yesterday its no going back for many of us...it was such a great day with loads of close finals....nobody winning by 10 lengths.... great banter at the pick up like it used to be  and getting our 1st vote for how our championships should be run

long live the NPWRA :D

It would be nice to have our questions answered by the WCRA (I think we are still awaiting the answers to those that were posed at the extraordinary meeting in May!). I still belong to an affiliated club, I have paid for my stickers this year. I note that despite the promises to be more open, the information that had been posted on the Whippet Club website has since been removed. I don't fully understand why that should be except perhaps that there may be the threat of litigation from some of the parties concerned who think that the issue has "all been finished with". If this is the case and the WCRA have new evidence, surely clubs should be informed. It will possibly affect decisions on reaffiliation next year. We as club members should have the opportunity to discuss this at forthcoming AGMs during the winter.
