I need to replace our dog's coat - currently he has a waterproof/lined coat which we bought from Pets At Home some time ago. It fastens with velcro and I've found that once the velcro gets ingrained with dirt, and also through general use, it gets very weak. The chest strap for example is prone to undoing if you just look at it ;) So, I'm looking for a new coat and as you can imagine there are millions online of all shapes and sizes and to suit all budgets. It would be great if someone can recommend one please! Features I'm looking for include:
  • Strap fastening preferably or really high quality velcro.
  • Waterproof.
  • Warm and can be used in cold conditions like this morning.
  • Has slots in the shoulder and back for attaching a lead to a harness.
  • I'm open to a dual use coat - I've seen ones which have two layers - one for warmth, then another over layer for waterproofing and you can use either separately.
Thanks in advance! :)

Ok, it doesn't quite fit your criteria - you need to put the harness on top because there is no slot for the lead, but the best coats in my view are Equafleece. They have a range, we use the tankie. They are warm and waterproof, wash and dry easily, have no fasteners on the tankie although you can get some with zips in; the quality is amazing. The one in the picture has been going strong for 6 years, no sign of wear at all.

Sorry, I could easily suggest coats for Whippets but they have a different shape to most dogs so wouldn't be of use in general.

Id just like to add that I have recently bought an Equafleece the same as Timbers. We bought it really to try and keep Evie's undercarriage a bit cleaner - she is constantly filthy!! I am very pleased with it. Very easy to put on, light, comfortable and quick to dry. Mind you, Evie is now just marginally cleaner when she comes home from a walk, but I guess every little helps.

We ordered one from Amazon over the weekend - I don;t recall the brand, but it had decent reviews and is one of those dual layer thingies - it has a removable fleece liner for colder days. I'll update this thread once it's arrived and been used a couple of times ;)

Equafleece are fantastic, they have a design for narrow/whippet type dogs too.
Waterproof, warm, light and comfortable. Rinse and dries quickly.

Oscar's Equafleece coat is at least 5 years old and is still in really good nick, so would recommend them. When its really cold he wears a fetching grey Argyle knit dog jumper underneath for extra warmth

Well it arrived yesterday, and tried it on for size. Seems to fit, which is a start. it goes over the head, then there's a velcro strap that does up on his back after passing under his belly, so it's out of the dirt and the velcro should stay sticky for longer. There are two straps that he puts his back legs through to keep the back end from flapping around, and he didn't like that,he did a kind of crazy chicken walk with his legs through the straps which was hilarious for us, not so much for him. When we use it out and about we'll see how he gets on without those straps. The inner fleece liner is held in by velcro tabs and is easily detached/re-attached. We'll see how it goes!

Thanks to all for the helpful advice earlier :)

Thanks @Violet Turner, that looks really good and is similar to what we've ended up with. I'll keep that one in mind when we come to replace the one he has now ;)
