What's the best all round dog magazine to buy? I love to read and have a quick glance through in the shops but would rather go on recommendations!

When we go through the channel tunnel we get a complimentary copy of Dogs Today. I enjoy the read but it's a wee bit lightweight for my tastes. Great idea for a thread though cashdolly!

JoanneF I am smiling to myself because everytime I mention my whippets on here I always go to type "wee Cash, Wee Dolly, my wee whippets...." and then I go back and replace wee with "little" as I forget this isn't a Scottish forum! So seeing "a wee bit lightweight" made me smile!

Great! Where about are you? I am in East Lothian just outside Edinburgh?

I actually found a member on here who lives near me and has one of my wee boy's sisters! I tried to contact him but he hasn't been active since 2014 which is a shame!!

I read the Dog World as we show ,but I am finding all the cruelty they report to be difficult to cope with. What I'd really like is a website that has comprehensive doggy news, yet wasn't biased against pure bred dogs or equally against mixed bred dogs. Just all dog news and research etc.

I'd like something like that too! though I must admit I do also find the breed specific threads helpful (I have whippets, have had lurchers and now have an akita too) I get loads of whippet and lurcher infor here but to get anything specific to Akita I have to go elsewhere. It's not essential as the general forums are great but sometimes its nice to speak to others with same breed etc.

Generally though a general website with lots of information, advice, research events etc would be helpful. I like to attend some of the agricultural type shows with the dogs and was considering some low level agility but its difficult to find things local.

I don't like to say where I am, but not too far from where you are - I probably know who bred your dogs .

When I first joined this forum( when it was k9) I registered with my name as my user name. I naively thought that I would be happy to put my name behind anything I was going to say. It then became apparent to me that every one involved with whippets in the UK and beyond were active on the forum and I felt that if I spoke out about anything contentious I might jeopardize the showing future of our dogs.

I understand! I registered with the dogs names but there are not many people with two whippets named after country stars so if anyone I knew was on here they would know its me! It makes sense not to use your name but at the same time its a shame that by having an opinion on something could jeoprodise anything! This is life though I suppose!

I don't show, my whippets are pet only and both are "rescued" as such (all my dogs have been rescued/re-homed). Cash is KC registered and I know his bloodlines, parents and that his breeder was in Fife. I do like to keep up to date with his family and his brother's litters etc and did enjoy finding out one of his sister's is near by but as I say I don't show or breed and that can mean that some (not all) people aren't really interested.... Without boring you with the long story I found Cash quite by accident (had never really had a strong interest in whippets) and it turned out he had been sold to someone as a pup who hadn't been looking after him so he had been taken back and he jumped out of the car and into my heart and now I am whippet daft! Dolly I found as a companion to him as when I separated from my husband he took all the other dogs with him and Cash very much thrives on company so I started a search and found little Dolly who was being kept by a woman who had rescued her after she was neglected and mistreated but she couldn't keep her as she wasn't getting on with her other dogs....so she came to me!

Anyway after that big story it is lovely to meet you!

I absolutely get that! I would actually love a third one ( or an Italian Greyhound)

When I had the lurchers we always had 3 at a time and I think its a nice number!

Dogmatize, I think I just liked your peanut comment - I take it that is what the little tick is for. That was what i meant to do! If I have inadvertently done something else please accept my apology.

Sorry, I'm not very good at all this "small talk" but I am watching and waiting for the right post to come along! ;)

Are we overcompensating excuseme? !!!

Hey no, it's just that I can't keep up with you all and don't have much to say !

It's good keep it going :flowers:

I like Dogs Today. This is mostly for the behaviour content. They have Sarah Whitehead and Peter Neville, two top behaviourists, on their team. I am not keen on the silly side of it though. They have done some amazing journalism into cancer in dogs and exposing the Kennel Club for not doing enough to end the over breeding and inherited conditions in pedigree dogs.

Ive read some old dog naturally magazines but they are American ..shame really cos it has some good articles /debates in ..

Whippets ..adorable little creatures..i used to look after my friends whippet when she worked away..sweetest little boy..

My youngest dog is a GSD cross ..we were told she was part collie..but as she has grown (she is 19months) its become very evident she is part sighthound/greyhound..she has they prey drive ..long slim body , deep chest and gsd ears !!!! She looks like enubis !!
