Really didnt want to have to post on here BUT i'm desperate for ANY help :( :

There is a beautiful little dog that lives opposite me that desperately needs help.

She is allowed to roam free most off the day on the street, no collar or lead.

She belongs to a relatively young couple who shall i say are both "dependants" on certain substances!.

She is a black & white terrier cross of medium size, i have beeen told 8 months old. She is very biddable, sweet natured altho slightly timid.

Twice i have nearly knocked her down where she has run out in the road in front of my car.

I am fearful that she may be due in season soon & will have every local dog pursuing her.

I have returned her to the owners now 3 times, only to be met with a total lack of interest.

Someone spoke to the owners tonight & they have said they no longer want her as their cat now has a litter of kittens & the cant cope with her!

Please can you help? If i could get them to sign the bitch over, does ANYONE know of a rescue that would be able to help in re-homing her? I dont mind fostering her or transporting her anywhere if she has the chance of a home.

I have emailed both NCDL & Battersea Dogs home, but no replies as of yet.

Thank you in advance, any suggestions would be gratefully received.

PS Please feel free to pm me anytime

Good luck & please let us know how you get on... :luck:

How aweful for you to be in this situation :(

those stupid people   and poor dog and cats :(

Have you maybe got a dog warden in the area you put report it too, or god forbid - the RSPCA - would they try to help in this situation maybe. Not that I would hold my breath with them but you could try.

Lets hope there is somebody out there willing to help those poor animals.

is it possible you could take the dog in for a little while, ??

I pm'd Nina earlier, but she must not have been on line since. I can take the poor little mite but I don't know what area Nina lives, can anyone advise me please.

It's not just me!! I couldn't do rescue without the backing from the rest of the team at Burnley Dog Rescue!! I am down at Ely for the whippet show tomorrow, the others are all fund raising!! (I would have loved to have been with them, they are doing an agility demo at Horses and Ponies Rescue Association, HAPPA) They do brilliant work with unwanted and abused horses, ponies and donkeys.

Just got your pm Jools & replied. Thank you sooo much. Someone is going to speak to the people hopefully later today & find out if they are definitely prepared to give her up.

Thing is, i want this to be done above board & with their full consent as, as much as i would like to report them or call in the dog warden, i live right opposite them & they would have a pretty good idea that it was me as i have returned the little one several times & basically been told to mind my own business.

Being that they are not the "nicest" of people, i wouldn't want them hammering on my door accusing me of stealing their dog or worse & as they seem somewhat unpredictable, i would prefer this to be done through a third person who would take her & then bring her to me.

Battersea Dogs home is not far away BUT i would be loathe to take her there to find at a later date they had put her to sleep if they could not find a home.

The people have said she is 8 months BUT she doesn't look like a pup & i just wonder how reliable this information is?

Either way, she is a sweet little thing who appears to love cats, she roams around with them all day & wants to be friendly to passing dogs but is quite submissive & drops to the ground & rolls over on her back.

She is timid if you approach her, she wants to come to you but seems scared & eventually does a belly crawl to you.

I'll let you know what happens & thank you all again for your help.

Good luck Nina, :luck: ..... they dont deserve to have animals, thats no life for a dog wandering around like that  .... imagine if it caused an accident too - who would take the blame - not them Id imagine. :(

I do hope they give her up without a fight with you. :luck: :luck:

Yes & i'm seething

She is owned by a young 20 year old lad & his 18 year old girlfriend, house full of cats & kittens & young baby.

Sent my OH round this afternoon & the lad says he would be glad to be shot of her in his words "nothing but a pain in the a*** & hard work" BUT his girlfriend hasn't yet decided so can we contact them at 8pm tonight.

My OH told him there would be a good home waiting for (which we have sorted out) & we can take her tomorrow for them.

I went out shopping, bought extra food, flea shampoo, got a lead & collar ready.

Came in from shopping late this afternoon & there she is back out on the road!

OH went back at 8pm, young lad wouldn't come to door but the girlfriend did & said they'd decided to keep her. :(

My OH pointed out that if they continued to let her out on the road she would end up getting run over or worse what will happen once she came into season??

The girl was totally clueless about this & just muttered they would be more careful.

We have left our name & contact details with them saying if things get too much please contact us as we have a home waiting.

Why oh why do these people get dogs!!

Thank you all, for your help, any updates, i will let you know.

I need a glass of wine now to calm down as i anm SO het up. :(

sounds awful, and makes me a bit worried about the baby too :(

Aww Nina, :( surely they will see sense and let you have her - are they stupid or what!!!!

Im hoping they will realise they canot give her the proper care and attention here. and give her to someone who can.

i know this isnt a politically correct thing to do but why not try to either scare them by going on about diseases that babies can pick up from dogs who mix with cats(they dont know what youre on about so theyll probably believe anything you tell them, and you can exagerate.tell them youve got a friend whos dog caused an accident and they had to pay out loads of money in compensation) :- " or tell them all the terrible things that can happen to them if they are caught letting a dog roam the streets as theyre liable for any accidents it causes and they can be fined for it roaming.(tbh id just make something up in order to get the dog away from them but where dogs are concerned im a totally unscrupulous person!) o:) :thumbsup:just had another thought.cant you contact the dog warden tell him whats going on and that youve got a good home waiting and ask him to take the dog (they probably wont pay the fees to get her out) and then he can release her to you? :)

Kris, i'll give anything a go!

Thing is i've spoken to Dog Warden & i know him well. All he can do is give them advice about not letting her out & warn them about putting a collar & id on her BUT as she is neither starved or abused , is fed & taken into a home environment he can not just take her without their consent.

Will keep an eye on her & if she wanders out of sight .......................................

i thought it was his job to take in strays?the dog is technically a stray even if he knows who owns it and where they live.hes supposed to take it off the streets as its a danger to traffic.remind him of the rules of his job!

Kris

He has picked her up twice already BUT before he has even started his van SHE has come running out saying "OOPS sorry thats my dog she must of escaped"!!

He has spoken to her & she has agreed to keep her in BUT she doesnt & unfortunately normally by the time he gets there she has gone back in. She seems to stay in the street, wandering up & down BUT not far enough away for him to pick her up without the girl seeing from her window & coming out.

He has given her a warning BUT she is clever & unless he can pick her up again not much he can do. She has told him she is trying her best BUT the dog is an escape artist & nothing she can do?

This one warden covers sooo many areas round here that if you call, by the time he arrives the dog has disappeared!

ok take the dog in (kidnap her if you have to,tempt her with a piece of chicken!) :- " ring the warden and make sure he takes her,its his duty to.i once had a dog of mine taken by a dog warden off my front porch!granted it was 30 years ago but the beggar was keen! (w00t) he knew it was my dog too!said as far as he was concerned it was a stray as it didnt have a collar on with name and address on! (w00t)

I agree with Kris. I'd be very tempted to dognap the poor little thing. Wait until they are not around & spirit her away . Chances are they won't even attempt to find her as they will probably be relieved she's gone. If she stays there much longer there will also be puppies to consider & that will just add to the problems.

Hope there is a happy ending to this.

Julie
