Has any one had a passport issued for taking their dogs abroad?

What is involved?

How much does it cost?

We would like to take the camper across to the continent this summer and would like our 2 to join us why shouldnt they come on the family holiday?

Or am I being silly?

In this day and age they would aways be with us and have a ball at the seaside in the sun?

Talking about the sun do you need to take any precautions with them ie suncream or a jacket to keep them cool?

Really dont know

Any comments would be great

Hiya, not got a passport for bust but if you go to the DEFRA website it should tell you wat it entails. Had to do about it for my course and i think dog needs microchipping, and all vaccinations up to date including rabies etc. Also think there was something about having to get vet to check them over in the country you go to but i could have got mixed up?

youd best get a move on.i think you have to start the jabs etc 6 months before you go

They have 2 be seen by a vet before u return and treated 4 fleas, ticks n some other stuff i cant remember...can cost a lot

We took Ziggy to Switzerland with us last summer and had a great time. :D You have to get your dog vaccinated against rabies at least about 8 months before your trip abroad because you then have to have a blood test to make sure the vaccination has taken and your dog is not allowed to re-enter the UK till at least 6 months after the blood test.

Before you return to the UK you have to get a vet to treat your dog for ticks and tapeworm between 24-36 hours (if I remember rightly) before your arrival back in the UK. It sounds a bit complicated but it all went without hitch and it was lovely having Ziggy with us rather than leaving him in kennels (which I wouldn't have the heart to do anyway).

I think it cost about £170 for the pet passport (Ziggy was already microchipped) plus the vet's bills in Switzerland but it's valid for 2 years so we can take him abroad again this summer. :)
