Dog Wardens - Are they Doing Their Job Properly?

I just found the following link online and thought it useful.

http://www.animalwardens.co.uk/lost-found-dogs-search/all-dog-warden-phone-numbers

It's a list of all UK dog warden phone numbers. It is under the 'lost and found' section however I assume this will be the same number for general dog warden enquires like people not cleaning up after themselves.

For the record I have no issues with people who walk their dogs in the woods etc. It's those who use the local parks and footpaths (where kids sometimes play) to walk their dogs who don't clean up after themselves.

The chances of stepping in something in the woods is minimal so I can't see the issue, but the chances of stepping in something in a park or footpath is very high and I see that as an issue!

dosnt look like fife have one lol no wonder theres dog attacks and shite all over the place,

I've never ever seen one here. I've asked the Council for Dog poo bins up our road but they said they only have them in major parks and where kids play. It doesn't matter that there is a good 20 plus dogs that walk up our road/fields etc with no where to put the poo bags. Some nice people pay to have lovely scented bags and then throw them up in the trees to rot, probably the same person who leaves all the vodka bottles, beer cans, tyres, and general rubbish they can't be bothered to take home.

We've had fantastic advertising campaign here in Falkirk. Really gross and realistic pics of dog poo (I know these were made with peanut butter and choc spread then wrapped in cling film and frozen - there was an article about this locally) with pics of a crawling baby about to put their hand on it, or a dog poo with someone about to tread in it.

http://www.falkirk.gov.uk/services/corporate_neighbourhood/estates_management/litterzone/campaigns/dog_fouling_campaign.aspx (if you have a look here, you can see some thumbnails of the images used). The ads were in the papers and all over buses. The council give out free bags from council premises and there are big phone numbers re mess all over dog bins. They've even started a volunteer green dog walker scheme where people wear a green armband if they sign up to say that they'll pick up their dogs mess and will hand out a spare bag if someone asks for one.

It isn't perfect, but at least they seem to be really trying here.

The whole pooing in the country thing is difficult - I try my hardest and I always collect from round paths, parks etc but out in the real country it's not always possible. I guess we just do the best we can - I have kids so my best is pretty good, but the other day my whippet had (I'm pretty sure) gone amongst some undergrowth under trees - well I hunted but couldn't find it, it was well off any paths and I was bending about double to get in where she'd gone so it's not like someone would have just stepped in it. I felt really guilty though

tanya your doing your bit and a bit more, the people we have to try and get to is the ones who break the law in most walks of life. you sound like you have a good council, ours in fife did give out dog bags but stopped it bout four years ago, the way i see it is its law so why isnt it being inforced to its full?

anybody else got a problem with me not picking up in countryside fields and hedges , ditches? just want to know thats all..
As a note we had a local council ecosystem agriculture type person say actually if it's off in the middle of the heath and away from the path to leave it. That by bagging it up we are causing more damage to the environment by disposing of the bags than by leaving it where it will quite quickly biodegrade and not cause any bother to the ecosystem.

Now that's not to say that I don't pick up at every opportunity, but after hearing it put that way I stress less if I miss the odd one where I know no one is going to be walking.

Just some food for thought.

Edit to add when I lived in Dundee we lived just up the road from a huge green where people would walk there dogs. There were a dozen or more poo bins there, and yet right round the bottom of the poo bins would be tons of poo's. I wondered if people thought they marked the places where the dogs should go rather than the places they should put what they picked up....
