hi all,

as the weather has been so nice we were thinking about going to the see side and taking herley, can dogs on on the sand on any beach? i will have plenty of poop bags lol

Not down south here either. Horses allowed on the beach b4 10 and after 7 ( i think) in summer period, but no dogs at all. shame they allow the day trippers on tho, to leave their shite behind, as they do. Fizzy pop cans, (no free adverts here) nappies, etc etc. and the local council try to charge Us, to park on our own beach. I pay (reluctantly) my tax, but I won't pay to park on MY own beach, not that I can access it cos of all the bloody day trippers.Sorry, but stay in your town/ city, where u belong, if not, then respect our nice parts, and leave your filthy standards at home.Not getting at you personally, but the "grockles" in general who come down here and just abuse our fantastic coastline. Im from the town (bristol) and travel to W-S-M or Brean to walk the dogs sometimes...

I make sure i have plenty of poo bags, that i take all my rubbish home and make sure i leave as i find....

you wont make friends by tarnashing us all with the same brush :rant:

If you ask your local tourist office they will know all the regulations and any beaches were dogs can be taken.

A few years ago now we went on holiday to Devon and were told when we booked that dogs were not allowed on teh beaches. The tourist office were very helpful and we managed to find a lovely beach where dogs could go. I must say it was actually nicer and cleaner than the others and we spent much time there.

You are in the same area to me mazncarey and we are thinking of having a trip to the beach soon to hopefully.

A lady in our village regularly takes her golden retriever and - Whitburn and Seaburn are the nearest beaches to us. You can take dogs to these beaches if you clean up after them - there are restrictions on some parts when there are lots of visitors around.

You never know we may see you there one day. :thumbsup:

hi, i would say that it depends on where you are going. my inlaws live in Fairbourne in Wales and the beach there has two ends where dogs can go and a section in the middle where they are not allowed between may and the end of september (high season) Barmouth is opposite Fairbourne and i thinks its the same over there. 8)

Bridlingtons South beach is very dog friendly.

I was there yesterday with Inca and Dippy and my dad and his springer.

There is a lot of families and boats being driven down to sea but everybody gets along fine.

There was loads of dogs on the beach yesterday and everyone picked the poo up.

Here in Suffolk there is lots of "areas" on most of the beaches we visit with a dog section. As for the people who don't pick up the poop (and they are few and far between) i am always happy to tell them to go and pick it up as we usually have the kids with us.

This is one of those occasions when the few, spoil things for the rest of us! Although most dog owners these days take responsibility for dealing with the less pleasant aspects of our dear friends - i'm afraid their are still some die-hard Refuseniks!

when i was a kid all of the pavements in our village were covered in poo and no one thought they needed to pick up; buggy wheels, kids shoes and bike tires were regularly caked in the stuff and our poor mums had to scrub what we walked in off the carpet :x If challenged (which my mum did regularly) she would be met with a shrug and 'well, they've got to go somewhere!' Today things are quite different and most seem not to leave the house without a goodly stash of poo bags at the ready!

Unfortunately, some folk still don't believe that they should, seem to think it's their right to foul open spaces and so restrictions get placed on where we can and can't take our dogs. Although it pains me, being someone who always but always picks up - i can quite understand why dogs get banned from parks and beaches.

It's interesting that the private park behind my flat is usually poo-free. Us regulars who pay for our keys have a vested interest in keeping it nice for everyone to enjoy. It isn't just the rangers who will pick up after the odd one who has 'forgot' or whose dog snuck off craftily to pinch one off ....... but when we have an open day, and the masses come in - the place is left in a disgusting state :x :x

maybe the cost of parking should be used for the council to get off their arses and tidy up, ive stopped being a "day tripper" as lets face it paying thro the nose to do anything once you get there for what? a tired tardy coastal town full of pound shops and fast food shops selling frozen chips and something that is termed 'fish" why are coastal fish/chip shops shite? and miserable buggers going on about "grockles" give me greece anyday

Sorry If I sounded like I was having a personal dig, I wasnt. What I was trying to pint out was : Dogs NOT allowed on our beaches. Horses ARE. And the fact that the scum that come here for their annual bath, can leave all their shite / crap etc etc all over the place, as do the druggies with their needles. But the council would go mad if you let your dog on the beach even, yet alone crimp one off n leave it.

As usual it was because of the minority who fail / failed to clear up after their dogs that was the cause of it all. What gets me is they still let Horses shit allover the beach - ok they herbivores, but it still gets everywhere, and you never see a council worker harrying anyone over left rubbish. Different story if you don't pay n display tho - They're right on the dot! cheers :huggles:

if they are allowing horses on the beach, and their owners dont stop to pick up the poo, why cant dog owners?? if they allowed them before and after certain times, they wouldnt bother anyone..

And the rubbish this gets me as well, why can people just take it home or put it in the bin...makes me so mad, and that isnt just townies either

I hate rubbish too. I could really get on my soap box about this.

I do think folk can be very lazy, and if there isn't a bin within a few yards then they think they are perfectly within their right to just drop litter for the council to pick it up for them (afterall they haven't provided a convenient bin have they and they've paid their taxes). This attitude makes me really angry. The council can't afford to employ people to empty all these bins and pick up litter all hours of the day (and why should they..it's our litter?). Let's face it, labour is the most expensive commodity these days. If everyone took responsibility for taking their litter home we wouldn't have this problem.

I'm just stating the obvious I know. :b However I try to do my bit locally, by picking up litter down our street (and we get plenty of it as we are on the road to the park and reservoir, popular with kids and visitors). My OH tells me off saying...leave it to the council.....(which makes me mad too :angry: ). Everyone should do their bit even if it means setting up a local 'tidy up' group.

Sorry...off topic...but it's just one of those subjects!
