gary, that grove is to channel the sh-t that comes out of your mouth to your arse, nowt to do with fitness     couldnt resist :-ive got a grove from e neck to me arsse but im not fit (w00t) never heard of the back grove myself only the one on the side ) think muscle defination depends on diferent dogs seen some skinny flying machines beat some muscleed up muts lol
slight mark on ribs cannot see the ridge down there back, maybe peter could give them an extra 3 to 4 miles a day, then we might see a mark (w00t) will they be running at maltby??????sure youll have them spot on :luck: :luck:Personally, I think there's a load of indicators beside ''the lines'' as they're only an indication of muscle tone and lean body mass which youth can bless us all with. Attitude is another but it depends on the dog. Getting the ok from your dog man is another but the main one I look for is recovery. Fit dogs don't blow hard after exertion and seconds after racing they're no different than they was before they exerted themselves. Even this is variable though as some dogs may just not try that hard in their running. If you know your own dog well enough then I think it's fair to say you above everyone else will know if it's fit or not.
your dogs look great jaq  heres a pic of my two pups neitor of them pant after racing in particular rio who had 3 runs last time she ran infact it was 3 and half runs lol she did tire on the last run but only panted for a few seconds. nikki on the other hand goes on so stupid b4 a race she wears herself out. do these pups look fit david?

yes mate thats the oneMy dog leads tell me when they're good to go
yup im on about the groove down the back. not sure about the 6 pack loljust realised u r talking about s line on the lower rib cage? im talking about a line down the middle of their backs
A grove down the back, and across the stomach and a six pack on the belly and you know your dog is race fit Sherry, di
AND I THOUGHT IT WAS ONLY MY DOGS KAREN :thumbsup:When our latest two are feeling fit and happy they have a thing about biting, No Angel runs around you and jumps up and nips you, Two Faced (the cow dog) doesn't nip she full on gets hold of you and shakes your clothes, be it trouser legs or shirt sleeves and very often gets carried away and gets a bit of flesh too (evil dog) no one likes to let her off the lead free running when we take her out cos if she feeling fit someone usually comes home bleeding
Glad you put your pics on bigbell, your black bitch is showing what i wanted to say 'my dad' used to say if a dogs tail was out like a pump handle it was a sign of fitness, but i didnt like to put it in case people thought i was a wally and didnt know what i meant, but your black bitches tail is a good example of what he used to say
