gary, that grove is to channel the sh-t that comes out of your mouth to your arse, nowt to do with fitness     couldnt resist :-

grove on the ribb cage,,,,,,is not 100%,,,,,as noN peds have that look naturally,,,,,,,,i have one that has that mark,,,,and iam afraid its there all the time ,,,,,not ran him for a year lol

grove on the back ,,,,,,enlighten me,,,,,,,,again one off my dogs have this,,,permently

i think ,,,,a dogs fitt when ,,,it running and winning,,,,and if not open class is doing times faster than normal

also when a dogs walking light on its toes is also a good indecator,,,,and full off energy,,,,,,and doesnt even pant after a race,,meaning was that it i could have ran triple that distance lol and u could enter them in next race and they still would run 1st class

just my oppion,,,,,,,,,not every racer is same built or,,same when running well ;)

Personally, I think there's a load of indicators beside ''the lines'' as they're only an indication of muscle tone and lean body mass which youth can bless us all with. Attitude is another but it depends on the dog. Getting the ok from your dog man is another but the main one I look for is recovery. Fit dogs don't blow hard after exertion and seconds after racing they're no different than they was before they exerted themselves. Even this is variable though as some dogs may just not try that hard in their running. If you know your own dog well enough then I think it's fair to say you above everyone else will know if it's fit or not.

your dogs look great jaq  heres a pic of my two pups neitor of them pant after racing in particular rio who had 3 runs last time she ran infact it was 3 and half runs lol she did tire on the last run but only panted for a few seconds. nikki on the other hand goes on so stupid b4 a race she wears herself out. do these pups look fit david?

slight mark on ribs cannot see the ridge down there back, maybe peter could give them an extra 3 to 4 miles a day, then we might see a mark (w00t) will they be running at maltby??????sure youll have them spot on :luck: :luck:

My dog leads tell me when they're good to go ;)

A grove down the back, and across the stomach and a six pack on the belly and you know your dog is race fit Sherry, di
yup im on about the groove down the back. not sure about the 6 pack lol

the six pack as u put it ( gabbitas,,,,,DI ),,,,,is more noticable in non ped bitches,,,,,,,,,had non ped bitches in past,,,at lurcher show,s,,,,,,1st thing jugde notices,,,when running his /her hands over dog,,,,

in non ped dogs less noticable,,,,,,cos there do das hanginging there,,,,,,,,,,

When our latest two are feeling fit and happy they have a thing about biting, No Angel runs around you and jumps up and nips you, Two Faced (the cow dog) doesn't nip she full on gets hold of you and shakes your clothes, be it trouser legs or shirt sleeves and very often gets carried away and gets a bit of flesh too (evil dog) no one likes to let her off the lead free running when we take her out cos if she feeling fit someone usually comes home bleeding

AND I THOUGHT IT WAS ONLY MY DOGS KAREN

hahaha its usually sadie that ends up coming home wounded to be honest, sade always seems to be in the right place for Tora to bite, shes a sod for it, mind ya i quite like it if she brings blood cos i then know i can run her at the weekend lol x

both these are my bitch's, now they have a touch of bull in them, but the pics was taken last year, the black bitch was 2 and half the white was 18 months, i course them and work the black bitch, ferreting and lamping, she has the muscle and also has good recovery after racing or working, she doesnt look like this at the minute tho hahahahaha

Glad you put your pics on bigbell, your black bitch is showing what i wanted to say 'my dad' used to say if a dogs tail was out like a pump handle it was a sign of fitness, but i didnt like to put it in case people thought i was a wally and didnt know what i meant, but your black bitches tail is a good example of what he used to say

when im out with mum i try to hide behind the nearest person but that dog still finds me, she singles me out but like i say there just love bites lol

Gotta give her summat tho when i take the kids out walking with us shes soft as a brush and just play like a puppy with them shes not all evil .... just evil with me hahaha
