Hi, Ia m a newbie to the site. I just wondered if anyone has or knows anyone with a Dogue De Bordeaux x boxer?

I have been offered one and wondered how they differ to the pure breed Dog De Bordeaux? Is the temprement the same? Do they grow to the same size? Can you really tell the differnce between pure bred and cross?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

The first question I would be asking is do you know the health problems associated with both the breeds you mentioned, have the parents been health checked and do you have evidence of the results.

Why are you not purchasing a pedigree puppy from a reputable breeder.

JENNY I AGREE ON YOUR FIRST two points but if we all went for pedigrees then the rescue centres would be choca, ive got a whippet x should i have gone for a whippet? but like jenny said check everythink is in order,

I guess what used to happen is that these dogs would just be called 'Heinz 57's' when I was younger.. but now they tend to have fancy names....like my Ripples who is a 'Jackapoo'

When I bought her, I did lots of reading up on poodles and Jack Russels - to be honest, I'm not keen on the JR temperament and we do see some of those - umm 'qualities' come through which have to be managed (Chasey with the cats, snarly with food).

I also looked up the Jackapoo temperaments and qualities as they had been bred for a while before I got mine.

So what I am taking a long time to say :lol: - is try and do your research - look at both breeds - ask if you can meet Mum and Dad and make an informed decision rather than a 'oh my - thats so cute' one :lol: |

I am concerned because both these breeds have known health issues. What I should have said was that as the poster seemed to be comparing the cross to the Dogue, then why not go for the purebred Dogue so that you could be sure of what your dog would look like and what size it might be.

Yep, I agree - always do the research of both breeds when buying a cross but if its the Dogue you like - save up and get one of those from a good breeder...

Thanks Guys and Girls.I have done some research on the net but have been unable to find much info on the x breed but plenty on the Dogue.I was just wondering if anyone on the forum had owned a x breed and could tell me some more about it.

I take dog ownersip very serious after previous owned breeds include St Bernard and Staff.I will ensure I see the parents and health checks etc etc are all good.

I think that the big issue with taking on a cross is that lots of people say that the cross breeds are healthier, but although that MAY be the case, it's equally possible that a puppy could have BOTH sets of parent breed health or temperament problems.

There is no way to know ahead of time what any cross breed pup will come out like, either physically or temperamentally. They may be like either parent or like neither, and that's all part of the deal you take on when you get a cross.

DDBs are generally quite short lived compared to many dogs and they can have quite a lot of problems, and crossing with another breed won't necessarily sort these out unless they are the sort of problem that is recessive (i.e. needs 2 copies of a faulty gene to occur). Most things like the shape of the hips can be inherited from either parent though, so one parent is enough.

I know people who adore their DDBs and people who adore their boxers, and people who have encountered problems with both breeds, from hip issues to heart problems. Even with a really well bred pup some of these can't be anticipated I'm afraid.
