Hi

Ellie is now nearly 6 months old and her one ear is not sitting properly at all. Her left one is like a whippet and her right one is like a Manchester Terrier most of the time.

I know that their ears can be a bit 'here and there' whilst they are teething, but should I be worried yet?

Julie

How are they in texture? a thick ear will have tendancy to prick, One of my 6 month old pups ear was floppy for a while but its fine now and they are very fine in texture  ears will tend to be all over the place when they are teething too

edited to say - is it sticking right up most of the time? or just flippy floppy?

In my experience it is pretty much irrelevent if the ear is thin or thick both can have a tendancy to stand upright(like a GSD).

It does vary with them

they are both quite thin (but I don't really have any basis for comparison)

They are not sticking up like my Shepherds ears, but the one is coming forward and looks like a manchester terrier.

It does fold back when she smiles!

will you love her any less if her ears stay like a manchester terrier ? :D

i think your worrying over nothing. ears flop up and down on pups at 11 months. theyre a mystery. yes teething has lots to do with it as the calcium is all going to their teeth. if you want them both down you can use "copydex" glue to temporarily fix them in place. dont worry they will sort themselves out.

I agree with Nick, doesn't make the dog any less lovable :huggles: ,just love her for what she is. Diane

I will love to her bits no matter what - showing will just have to wait!

Do judges penalise for ears being half up - not pricked but alert position? Like Tia in my second sig pic.

No they do not penalise, but in alert position they shouldn't be quite as 'up' as Tias are in that picture.

As long as the ears are correct ir doesn't matter how they are shown, although people do have their own preferences

At shows Tias ears are 98% perfect she will sometimes put one up like in that sig pic, im happy with that as i know she can put her ears back when she wants to and at show theres so many exciting things going on for a puppy - i have a good feeling once she is a year old things will have settled into place nicly! :D IN the last week iv noticed a difference in the house - i think she is calming down a lot and her ears are in the correct position nearly all the time pheww :sweating:

p.s id love her even if she had no ears!!! :teehee: (w00t)

One of my dogs had her ears bit all over the place until she was 18 months old, I thought she will never be quite right. But suddenly she folded both down and they are still folded few years on. :)

Only time will tell with your girl :luck: :luck: :luck:
