WELL, YOU CERTAINLY PUT ON A SHOW TO REMEMBER YESTERDAY.

ALL YOUR SHOWS ARE GOOD BUT THIS WAS A VERY WORTH WHILE TRIP OUT, EVEN THOUGH I DO NOT SHOW ANYMORE.

BIG PAT ON THE BACK TO YOU ALL, AND YOUR KC FIELD OFFICER MUST HAVE BEEN MORE THAN IMPRESSED.

I've put my comments on the results thread, but it certainly was an excellent show and the committee must have put tons of work into it all to make it run so smoothly, well done to all of them.

East Anglian Whippet Club------Well done! It was a wonderful show and as usual the hospitality was second to none. You really know how to put on a show.

I also appreciated the efficiency of the judging. There was no standing around for ages in the ring which was wonderful for the feet and legs of the exhibitor and kept the dogs interested. Whether or not you agreed with the judging, you could see that she knew what she was looking for and got on with it. Give Karen Lee a big thank you. (Incidentally, I thought she made the correct choices.) And we weren't even one of the winners. :)

Yes, I totally agree - the judge was delightful - she gave every dog a chance to show themselves to the best advantage, she was gentle and thorough, and she knew what she was looking for. How kind of her to come all the way over from the USA to judge our dogs.

Thank you very much for the comments, all the committee worked really hard and we received a clear report from the field officer, this will mean we will be graded excellent in The Kennel CLub Gazette!

Thank you to all the exhibitors for making the show what it was, a lovely astmoshpere and lots of people staying to the end to watch.

We are already planning the extras to make to the Championship Show as special, for starters free buffet and wine for everyone at the show!

Whilst that is fantastic news, it is also only fair. I can honestly say this was the best show I have ever been to.

Everything was fantastic, the venue was superb, really first class, and the committee were to be commended, not only on what they had achieved for the show (wonderful prizes and judge, a gorgeous buffet, the most fabulous rosettes to name but a few) but actually how well the whole day went, so smoothly. The committee were on hand all day, making sure everyone was happy and ensuring everything was perfect.

It was all everyone I spoke to could talk about (w00t)

Having not even considered it as a possiblity before, I now know I will be attending all of their future shows. It was very strange to be there without an dog, and there were certain times of the day (mostly when whippets were running around in the sunshine haveing a glorious time :- " ) that I felt quilty for being there without mine. I so wish I had entered now :b

Congratulations to all I know that went and were placed  and a special mention to Dawn, who took great delight in chastising me over my 'moment' once, and went on to have one of her own yesterday, albeit a little more reserved than mine (w00t) 8) :- " I hope that blooming ASBO was lifted yesterday :huggles:

Thank you all for your kind comments. We do work very hard to make it a good day out for all whether you win in the ring or not. We feel that the club is there for all its members and that they should all all enjoy a wonderful day out with their whippets at a pleasant and social event.

The fact that this is appreciated by so many makes the effort very worthwhile.

Karen Lee has asked me to pass on her thanks to everyone who complimented her with an entry, she was thrilled to see so many beautiful dogs with their sporting owners. She really enjoyed her day and was planning to write her critique on the plane home.

I will post more photos when I have caught up with my home and business life.

It was a lovely day, one to remember. We may not have the closest shows in East Anglia but we do have the best!! :D

Hi all--longtime lurker on this board, but obviously a first time poster.

I was so impressed with EAWC--we have nothing like this sort of show whatsoever in the USA and I was just jealous of the exhibitors, really, as I WANT TO EXHIBIT at a great big Whippet show with such a great committee and so many prizes right on down the line, and just really every consideration shown to the exhibitors who were treated as honored guests of the club. We could use a bit more of that attitude over here on this side of the pond. The only thing we have to match it is probably some of the big matches we have for the show/race meets, but those are less formal and this had the advantage of not only a lot of prizes and a casual and friendly attitude, but real glamour and a true championship show atmosphere--I don't know how they pulled it off. It was both totally by the book and according to Hoyle, and sociable and friendly--a tough standard for any club to meet.

As a judge, I was both gratified by my large entry, and also a bit saddened that I was forced to go through some of the classes like a hot knife through butter. Though I was very firm on my winners and 2nds, I'm sure a few of the 3-5's could have switched around and a few cuts might have been different if I'd been able to give some dogs a second chance or had a bit more time to consider them, but it just wasn't possible. I phoned my mother today and she has been a really good licensed judge over here for many years (she's now retired) in a number of breeds, and when I told her what I had drawn and how late we were starting in the day, she said I'd be lucky to finish by 6pm.

She was GOBSMACKED (well, she's from the American South so let's just say she was in a "hot swivet"), when she heard I'd awarded the last prize (the one for the class I didn't even know about beforehand--Best Blue or Black---at 4:20pm. She said she can't imagine how I did it without being rude, and to that I replied that I had great stewards, and alert handlers who did what I asked, but that I had to dispense with some of the extra consideration in larger classes that we expect in such an entry over here, and it saddened me greatly, as I'd have liked to give some of the dogs a longer look.

So, if you got something you can take pleasure in knowing that you probably managed to have your dog looking just right when I was specifically focusing on it, and if not, that probably it might have done better if I'd been able to go back to some of the dogs I thought I would like if I spent a bit more time with them, but just wasn't able to. Or, failing that, you can chalk it up to American eyes going for a somewhat different style. It was a great experience for me as other than Chelynnah Wendy and Pauline Oliver, who have been over here and met me, I didn't know anyone on sight or have any feel for which dogs had been winning and which had not. It was a totally pure judging experience of the sort which is impossible for me to have in my own breed on my own continent.

I'm pleased that some of my winners have lots of fans here on the K9 Community. It is easy to see why as they are charming, quality dogs. The owners were quite sporting about indulging my admonitions to move faster or slower, or alter their stacking style slightly. It never hurts to give the judge their way...you can always go back to how you think you should do it the next show.

But, anyhow, GREAT entry and I really enjoyed this opportunity to go over such a large UK entry of depth and quality, and I appreciate everyone's patience with an American judge trying to figure out how to run a ring in a slightly more British fashion. I was really pleased that the EAWC got such a great review, and that I was able to bring this entry galloping home with prizes awarded in enough time to get the astroturf rolled back up for the rollerskaters who had the space next.

Thanks to those who were not too pressed for time to join me for a little chat and visit in the pub. It was delightful. Even though it's a bit of a blur right now, I know that I have memories I will always treasure and this will be one of my all-time favorite assignments, no matter how long I judge dogs, which I hope is a long time indeed.

A jet-lagged,

Karen Lee

Surrey Hill, USA

p.s. Of course, Cathie's hospitality was superb, and instead of a chocolate, I got a Folly on my pillow.

Come back next year, I am sure someone will find you something to handle in the ring. :D

What a lovely post, Karen. So glad you enjoyed your day as much as all the competitors did, and hopefully even the committee did in spite of all their responsibilities. :)) I was also impressed that you managed to get through the entry so smoothly, but I certainly didn't feel rushed, and you were courteous, calm and gentle with the dogs throughout - extremely professional I would say.

Hope to see you back here some time in the future.

PS Lucky you, having a Folly on your pillow - she's gorgeous, isn't she? :huggles:

PPS No photos, I'm afraid - forgot to recharge my camera battery  :(

I really wish I had entered!! :D

Well with all this amazing feedback I will definitely try my utmost to come to the EAWC Champ show

THank YOU Karen for coming all this way to judge our dogs , Its nice to have a `outsiders` view of what we have .

Mollee will enjoy sharing her `Mature Royal Canine biscuits`with mum nearly 15 and dad 11 yrs :huggles: but is keeping the necklass for special occasions just for herself as Woody would look silly wearing it

The entry you had would have been a hard task even for a championship show judge from over here and to be asked to rush on because of time was a shame , :( and as you say maybe some placing would have been differant , but we all commented on the lovely way you handled our dogs ,

We look forward to seeing you again in the future and Im sure one of us could find a dog or two for you to handle :huggles: I handled a couple of dogs for K9ers when I went to the Skolaster in sweden a few of years ago and its great fun , even got a placing too :D

It was the best show I've been to it - so enjoyable (even without my girls getting placed :teehee: ) and East Anglia isn't as far away as I thought  .

I'm another one who is looking forward to supporting the shows in the future.

Thank you, Jackie. I appreciate the nice entry you brought me and I do remember some of them even though I only found a high placement for Mollee. There was a really handsome red and white dog in Open who was very much my type--he did kind of give us all a scare when he crashed the table trying to jump it on the go-around. I'm sure that didn't help his gait in the short term, but I did remember him. I looked him up because I remember him as very pretty stacked out and found he was Mollee's son.

It was hard in many of the classes and honestly sometimes it came down to who was just really on their game that day. I will be saying good things about the entry as a whole.

I wanted to tell you that Mollee is playing REALLY well with my American friends who are seeing photos. I have been asked to request a photo of Mollee in her youth. If you would care to share one, PM me.

I would love to show in the UK ring. I had a good time stacking and working with some of the big winners I got to cut my teeth on at Cathie's place before my assignment. I got Alayna's Crufts winner, his nice little sister (?), Bubbly Blonde, Belle of the Ball, Belle Epoque (the mother of the brides), Brief Encounter, and of course, old Beauty was there to make sure nothing tasty fell on the floor. :p

And let us not forget Monty the Magnificent. He was very happy to do some table practice with me.

All in all, a dream assignment in myriad ways. :D And I thought Mollee looked lovely in her necklace. The stones really suited her. She was meant to have it.

It was a fantastic day and even my little Tipsy stood still on the table so that was very pleasing the fact she didn't want to move as she was constantly looking for her sister is another story (w00t) - and her sister Tizz excelled herself making the cut in Post Grad and then winning Special Beginners in fact you wouldn't believe they were sisters but Tizz was handled by my daughter Amelia and won a lovely whippet coat donated by Irene & David Straughan so a huge THANKYOU there We all enjoyed the show the atmosphere everything. Sue

Karen - just wanted to echo the comments made by others already. Thank you for coming all that way to judge our dogs. It was an absolutely super show, im glad you enjoyed it and had such a lovely entry of Whippets of go over. I enjoyed watching your judging throughout the day.

I was pleased with my placing with my white dog, Stormburst Sparkling Water at Citycroft, who was 2nd in Yearling dog.

All in all, a great day out. Thank you :)
