On my way out this morning i stopped and watched the trucks taking the kids through
to Lowestoft for their day out at Pleasurewood Hills and in a while i will go out onto
the seafront and watch them drive down. Its lovely to see all the kids smiling and
waving away, they love this day out.
Here's a truckers view of the day......
"On Sunday 24 August, 84 trucks congregated at County Hall, Norwich for the 'convoy'. It was a slow journey from Norwich to Pleasurewood Hills theme park due to the wet roads. It was bucketing it down. Finally the rain stopped when we got on to the Acle Straight. The rain hadn't stopped the public from coming out. Every lay-by and flyover was crammed with people waving and clapping us. We arrived at Pleasurewood Hills at 12:10pm. The little girl, Rebecca, who I had as a passenger in my cab was really excited," he says.
"We left Pleasurewood Hills at 5:15 and headed for Great Yarmouth. There were a lot of regular faces lining the route. We went through Yarmouth dock area and turned left onto the 'Golden Mile'. We were travelling at under walking pace due to the amount of people lining the streets. In some places the crowd was ten or 11 deep either side of the road."
Valhalla takes part in this "phenomenal" event every year and says Yarmouth seafront always puts a lump in his throat. "This year it was so emotional I cried!" He adds: "We arrived back at County Hall at about 8pm. I helped Rebecca out of my truck. She was beaming from ear to ear. She gave me a massive hug and said thank you which made me cry again. It's so difficult the describe the atmosphere and emotions of this special day. You have to be sitting behind a wheel to get the full effect!"
