Over the last week or so, Skye and Star have both been eating grass and soil that they have dug up from the lawn like it is going out of fashion. Do you think they might be suddenly lacking in minerals and can anyone suggest what I might give them? Also would I be right to be concerned about them consuming any volcanic dust?

Both Sophie and Taz love eating grass at this time of year, they don't seem to bother with lawn grass but home in on patches of rough grass when we are out and would browse for ages if I didn't get bored waiting for them and move them on

I don't think it's because they are lacking anything in their diet, I think they just like the taste of spring grasses.

If any of my dogs go out and start eating grass frantically in the garden that seems completely different and usually means they are going to be sick :x

lacey and indy ahve turned into to jearsy cows at the momnet there out grazing all the time and do every spring summer in he garden. they ahve done it fo years its allways teh soft new shoots and they love it keep saying i should have called them daisy and buttercup lol

My Star and Skye are exactly the same atm Sharon  especially Star !

When we get to the fields and i let them off their leads, seems Star would rather graze than chase Skye   :teehee:

oh and they both have a taste for dandelion heads  :p

Merlin is also making a beeline for grass - the longer and lusher the better! No sign of being sick - just think he likes a bit of salad now and again! :))

Always seems to be in spring mine eat more grass

Oh fine, mine are doing exactlty the same as ALL of the above, thanks everyone, I shall worry no more!

Good point and good advice

The possibility of lungworm from grass is a worry too - but I haven't found a way to stop them eating grass other than keep them away from the fields completely at this time of year, so I guess we'll have to take our chances but be aware of any symptoms and get them dealt with quickly.
