Just wondered how long any of you that sell on ebay would wait on payment , or think is a reasonable time to wait on payment! I listed an item a few weeks ago waited a week, after emailing the buyer to send payment they didn't waited another week and a half and then put in a dispute. They were no longer registered so the dispute was worthless and then i noticed a week later they were back as ebay members  I still had to pay the cost of the advert though  Then last Monday I sold something and I have had no payment for that either and we are now over a week on. I have emailed the buyer today asking her for payment and telling her I have sent two invoices with no correspondence from her. All the other things I have sold have been paid for basically within a few days :D

ebay rules say you have to wait 9days before you can dispute it, i have in the payment box, that they have to make contact with me within 48hours and payment within 7days, il send them an invoice on day one send them an email day 2 reminding them they have to make contact just to let me know when they intend to pay, and the at 4days waring them again and 6days telling them i intend to relist it, and leave negative feedback, and then on te 7th day i tell them that i am relisting it and they will recive negative feedback and the claim against ebay will be made.

i always wait till the 9days before relisting as you get some pains try to say, theyv been away from the pc and knew they had 9days to do it.

and i always wait untill ebay has put it in my favour before leaving the negative feedback.

but i dont see why people cant pay within the first 48hours, because they should know when its finishing so should check and pay, and if they cant pay straight away they should email saying i will pay and this is when i will do it.

Thanks for your advice :)

It is soooo annoying having to chase up non payers. Why do idiots bid on items if they have no intention of paying for them

I always pay as soon as I have purchased an item, or if I'm out as soon as I get home. I will in future put a bit in my listing saying payment has to be made within a certain time :- "

Agree with what has been said, there are lots of good people on Ebay but a few ****ers! :- "

I always pay same day, if I bid and know I am going to be away when the item finishes I usually message the seller to let them know if I win they won't get immediate payment. The secret is communication and good manners, which cost nothing

If the highest bidder is slow in paying or doesn't respond to your invoice is it possible to offer the goods to the 2nd highest bidder?

Thanks Bellefire, I am a novice when it comes to internet purchasing

You've probably found this already, but this is a checklist for sellers.

Tips for sellers

What I would do is to check the buyers feedback when I send the invoice. When you check feedback, you need to read all the comments, not just look for negative or neutral transactions as very often people do not like leaving negative feedback in case of retaliation, but might leave positive feedback comments like 'late payment' or 'better late than never' which might give a clue to what sort of customer they are.

It's best not to be too bad minded, sometimes people are genuinely not very good at internet transactions, and grateful for a little patience. The very few non-payers I have had I have requested contact details from ebay and phoned them directly to ask, very politely, if they still want the item and if not, can I sell to another customer, upon which a payment has usually appeared very rapidly via Paypal.

I'm not sure if you can put a time limit on payment that differs from eBay's rules, which says you can start a non-payment claim if they have not paid within a week (which implies they also have a week to pay) I think communication is supposed to be made by both parties within 48 hours, though I can't remember where it says this now.
