Well, what a couple of days. Eddie's lump went in about 4 days from a tiny bobble that didn't feel connected anywhere, like a petit pois, to a solid splodge that needed a big wound to remove it all.
It's been sent off for histology reports, so fingers crossed for nothing sinister.
I went to work at 6:15 am yesterday so that I could finish early to be able to get to the vets and stay with Ed whilst he was sedated. The poor lad was a bit peeved at missing his breakfast! I hated depriving him of that, as he's been so starved in the past.
At the surgery there were three cats in too, all yowling, which didn't exactly help him to relax and succomb to snoozeland either! Eventually he nodded off and that left me free to go shopping for him.
I bought a free range organic chicken, and casseroled it with carrots, green beans, garlic and asparagus tips ( a frozen mix, I'm not THAT mad!!) and cooked some rice till mushy in the stock, to make a nice moist and light meal for him (and Wills, natch)
Then it was pace the floor and snatch the phone whenever it rang. At one point I missed a call and I was worrying it had been the surgery with bad news, and they had missed me and were waiting for me to call later to tell me..... gawd, an active imagination is a killer sometimes isn't it?
Thank heavens that when I did ring it was good news - mostly. The lump was out, but had been well attached, hence the wound was a lot bigger than originally anticipated. His dental had gone well but he'd had to have an upper back left molar removed - I think that was the one that the abscess had been under earlier in the year, so that takes care of that problem at least. (w00t)
I collected him at three, and paid the bill...... this didn't include the histology as they don't know how much that is yet, but includes the follow up visit tomorrow and next week, and also 3 dap refills and one of those noise cd's, "Sounds Scary", and all the treatment so far......are you sitting down? £316!!!!! Oh my Dog, what a scary sound that was! Still, we should get some back on the insurance. £70 excess per condition though, so at least £140 for us to pay.
He was very wobbly and not sure of himself last night, and whined a fair bit. However he enjoyed the chicken casserole and had 2 small lots of that during the evening.
He slept well over night, though he did move around a fair bit.
Today he's doing well, really very much brighter. We went out for a walk whilst it was still sunny and he practically tugged me all the way to the rec! Then he wanted a run so we let him, thinking he'd toddle off gently.... no, he streaked away after Willow! Daft lad!
I made him some scrambled egg for lunch topped off with a hot dog sausage sliced up, and for breakfast ( and tea ) he had some more chicken and vegetable casserole. He's asleep here now, and snoring!
Willow was funny, I made her scrambled egg at lunch too, as otherwise she'd have glared at us all and demanded to know why I was cooking especially for HIM and not her????
But just to be contrary she wasn't sure she liked it, she thought I was trying to poison her <G> I had to hand feed her sausage before she'd condescend to eat it herself!
Anyway, I'll add a couple of pics so you can see my poor old lad's war wound. But he's doing well..... just the results to dread now!
