Diesel has a nasty bout of colitis as yet cause undiagnosed. Vet has prescribed antibiotics and a few days of chicken and rice to settle his tum.

Of course just realised that we’ve always had him on a cereal free diet to avoid sensitivities common to boxers. So would mashed spuds be a good alternative to the rice? Fear the rice might make things worse.

I agree that you need to avoid the grains, rice too.
I would suggest using a small quantity of sweet potato and NO rice, with your lightly boiled, slightly pink chicken meat, add some "live" natural yoghurt (Keifer) is best but even supermarket economy will help ( this can help replace the good bacteria to the gut and especially after antibiotics, which often kill all bacteria, good and bad! use a large tablespoon full, and some slippery elm to the meals (sprinkle on food). "Oralade" is excellent for helping to rehydrate, it contains essential electrolytes, amino acids, trace minerals and carbohydrates in purified water.

Oh yes! We have a spaniel really allergic to rice- most grains but rice is worst. I always give potato instead- and since he's not good with chicken I use white fish with it. Good luck.

Poor Diesel I hope he feels better soon.
Marley has suffered colitis since he was a pup and it can be really nasty for them poor souls. I realised with him it was chicken so I had to change his diet. He still gets breakthroughs when he's ate something he shouldn't, but I keep a tube of pro kolin in the cupboard for emergencies and I swear by pumpkin!

Well the sweet potato and chicken along with slippery elm and yoghurt seems to have done the trick. Will start slowly switching back to his normal food tomorrow.

Glad to hear he's on the mend.
For Murphy beef is the trigger and his tum isnt keen on rice either.
Mind you since feeding totally raw we have only had one runny bum moment and that came after he ate something nasty on the street..
