I have started to get enquiries concerning booking a camping space for the English Derby in 2013

at Fordingbridge Wrc. I think Chris Cornish will be putting on some information about the arrangements for doing this and when you can start to book.

As you can see several enquiries have already been made for the 2013 Derby and Fordingbridge events.

Can all racers who are wanting to send Doreen deposits please wait until February next year, no money required until then!

You can still provisionally book with Doreen....

But all bookings must be confirmed when asked to do so next February.

For those who wish to book their time off work, camping from Wed June 19th until Tues July 2nd. Derby date is 22nd & 23rd June, NNWRF 28th & BWRA IBM 29th June, with Fordingbridge mid-week open June 26th. We look forward to seeing you all next year!

Lin from the Fed has pointed out their dates for 2013 are June 29th & 30th, and not as I had previously stated.

So just to to confirm;

Classic English Derby June 22nd & 23rd,

Fordingbridge Open mid-week, Wed 26th June.

NNWRF Golden Jacket June 29th and BWRA Classic IBM Sunday 30th June.

if people are going to down to help with the track i would go down and help in any way i could. agree with steve after not the best turnout this year imo i personally think it would be fairer to move it up the country.

move it about then people dont have to pay to travel cost up north and it would be nice to have it on your doorstep now and agian

We held it at Newton Aycliffe for a number of years, no one seemed to complain then.....I do know where you are coming from cost wise, but it will be in Fordingbridge in 2013, it is a beautiful place and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves despite the weather We will return to Devon if the track gets sorted out, we are always on the look out for a suitable venue, there are plenty around the country with several top class venues to be found in the Midlands!

i have nothing against fordingbridge, been there it is a lovely place, just not really the fairest place to hold one of the best events of the year imo, we have good venues already that are capable of holding the event if it was next month never mind next year. newton aycliffe were some of the best years in racing,great attendances, great prizemoney,great track,great time. not complaining, just think that the derby can still be like it was at aycliffe but not if it was at fordingbridge as in the current climate it just wouldnt be possible.

traveling to fordys the same as traveling to devon its same forrmat as devon 10 day fest :thumbsup: we couldnt make this year but deffo will next year alll being well :thumbsup: we should be greatfull for any club to host any event especialy camping ones i know where pigs coming from at the same time .

Totally agree, another year of poor attendances surely shows you that the Derby which was one of the most prestigious events in the calendar needs a bloody good shake up.

The fact this years venue was in an idylic location was obviously not enough of an attraction for a lot of people, not only were numbers down but there were a lot of very good dogs missing from the race card too.

Please please lets get the ENGLISH DERBY that we all remember so fondly back to its former glory ASAP.

Personally i to would like to see the derby in the middle of the country although fordy is one of the best places ive been to ,the area is fantastic and the people that run the club cant do enough for the events run, its a crying shame that some people miss out on this prestigious open and the entertainment that comes with it

like i said before it has got nothing to do with fordingbridge the derby was they event at aycliffe with nothing else everyone came to it because it was the derby, maybe it being part of a 10 day holiday is the problem??? just looking at the proposed opens in the break at fordy next year the derby, then a golden jacket fed and a classic bwra.

surely that in their own right they are all to good to be on in the space of 7days. so that is guna mean attendances will be down because all dogs cant run at all opens and thats not even including the midweek club opens.

I have nothing against Fordenbrige. but common sense should prevail in the location of the ENGLISH WHIPPET DERBY, surely it should be held in the middle of the country where you would have more chance of a good turnout. At the moment it should be called THE SOUTH OF ENGLAND DERBY, as it is very unfair for the majority of whippet racers especially for the people from Scotland.

2007 held at Newton Aycliffe 201 entries

2008 held at Newton Aycliffe 160 dogs (people may recall kennel cough was around at the time)

2009 held at Devon 125 dogs

2010 held at devon 119 dogs

2011 held at devon 97 dogs

2012 held at fordingbridge 89 dogs

Don't get me wrong, a holiday is nice for some but it does not cater for all. Location, the time period it's run over and when play more major parts in a big attendance.

I believe that whilst Newton Aycliffe track, close to an industrial estate may not have been the most picturesque of locations it did have an excellent track, a big field for us all to camp together (if we wanted) and if we couldn't camp, the vast majority of people could travel for the day.

Putting us all on a field together made us a family where we'd all stay together and motivate each other to get involved with things like fancy dress, stars in your eyes etc. Other racers would look out for one another and peoples kids and such. Yes folk would get drunk and there'd be the odd to doo but some of those people are the biggest characters of whippet racing and they bring a social element that makes you feel like you've had a great time even if your dog got beat.

Surely it's possible to revert back to the English Derby being run on a bank holiday weekend in the middle of the country (or therabouts) and have the ten day whippet racing holiday that used to happen in Devon but instead take that to Fordingbridge so no-one looses out?

I love fordhambridge but like attendance shows may need rethink how to get numbers up you only got look at a&t miners this weekend 90 dogs the derby should be looking at getting back up to 130 dogs for elite event jmo
