My two are obessed with birds. Offlead the majority of their time is spent chasing them around the field where they walk.

So imagine the delight and frustration when they discovered there was a bird stuck in our chimney. Most of the morning was spent with noses stuck to the fireplace and Archie loudly whimpering.

Whilst trying to figure out how to remove the bird and contemplating ringing a chimney sweep I heard Archie banging his nose loudly against the base of the fireplace. I went in to see this peeking out.

It was a starling and it had managed to get in behind and under the fake fire.

So my sister was called on for moral support and we pulled the fire out to let the bird free to fly out the window.... which it thankfully did straight away.

Fireplace is back in position and the dogs are still hoping the bird is still in there, lol.

Wow....did the starling fall down your chimney? Sounds like you need one of those cage thingies (a cowl?) on your chimney top. An old nest dropped down ours last year and got stuck, and someone had to knock a hole in our chimney breast to extract it, as more conventional methods (chimney sweep) proved unsuccessful. (w00t)

 Love the expressions on your two dogs faces. It must have made their day :teehee:

Thats great you are able to make a rescue - well done the dogs for finding the little chappie. :- "

Yes you do need a cowl on top of your chimney - if birds fall down there and dies - you have a major problem - Argggg :x

I'm going to get my Dad to come round tomorrow and put one on for me. Don't want that happening again!!

My sister had a bird die in her chimney a few years back. It was in her rarely used front room. The first the knew of it was coming home one day to see hundreds of blue bottles climbing round the window. (They must have hatched from maggots in the dead bird.) Still sends shudders down our spines talking about it. Eeek!! (w00t)

The dogs have now settled down, but are lying in the bed next to the fireplace, just incase the visitor makes a return visit. lol.

Great pictures  they are really concentrating on that firplace.

Mine is the same spends a lot of her time chasing seagulls.
