If you give him raw beef mince . please Freeze it first , as it contains a germ that is fatal to dogs  (w00t) ( can never remember the name , I know it begins with N  :- " )
I give mine Tesco's finest blue stripe cheapo fatty mince! Never had any problems, they love it and seem to gain a little weight! :b

Hi Lise,

Personally i would give some complete to a pup because im always concerned about getting enough vits/minerals.

After reading all the threads on diet on k9 a while back i was really interested in trying feeding some raw meats after all the good reports on it! so i took some advice off a k9 member and feed our adult whip james wellbeloved in the morning (she just used to have this anyway, but am and pm before started raw meats)

For evening meal she has either tripe, or mince, or nature diet. I dont mix meat with biscuit though. Also she has chicken wings a couple of times a week too which are relished! :D always RAW not cooked though, else they'll splinter.

Try soaking the complete in warm water, I always have done this-mine wont touch it dry. Holly loves her dinner warm and the water brings out the gravy in the biscuit, you could always soak with abit of stock too.

For puppies i soak the biscuit in warm lactol or goats milk!

Now im totally confused

So Tilly is 6 months i feed her

Tined dog food mixed with mixer biscuts (she loves) :))

to try and cut out the farts, i now feed her dry complete dog food (she doent like to much) :(

So should i feed her raw meet, if so what kind?

What is this tripe you talk of?

Is there anything wrong with what she is eating?

Why cant it just be easy??

Is there a book?

Hi,

There are some realy good thread in the FAQ section. Tripe is cows stoomach lining i think, and Floyd just loves it, many people feed their dogd the BARF way which I think means bones and raw food, its become quite popular but isn't for everyone.

I am happy to keep with tripe as long as he is getting some fibre etc in the form of his complete food (which I crush with pestle n mortar and add to a bit of warm tripe)

I probably wouldn't feed canned as our friends do and thier dogs breath stinks)

Hope this helps.

Lise

PS try not to to get as stressed as I did with Floyd!!

This thread could have been written by myself a couple of months ago (in fact I did post a question called 'fussy eater' which is well worth a read as it contained really good advice).  The best advice I took from that was that dried food isn't very appetising but like you I liked the idea of it containing all she needed and it's supposed to be good for their teeth as well.  So what I did was just feed dried in the morning and now feed Nature diet for tea (changing the flavour every other day).
Also best bit of advice was to stop worrying and fussing - my Phoebe used to taste her food, watch me for any signs of 'oh my god she's not going to eat it' and then she would expect something 'better'.  He won't let himself go hungry - maybe with the treats and you trying different things he doesn't get the chance to build up a proper appetite for his meals.  Also I agree don't leave the food down (maybe she'll just eat a little bit more later.....).  The first time I took away Phoebe's food after 10 mins when she'd only given it a sniff I felt awful and her face was a picture  but she really scoffed her next meal!!  Phoebs is now 10 months old (today!) and eating 2 regular sized meals really well but even now occasionally she'll just snack at breakfast but I take it away and then she eats extra the next day.  I hope you find the right way for you soon - you know your dog the best and I found taking all the advice on board and then relating it to my dog and my worries gave me a really good solution.

Jasper was the same as a pup so we took his food of him after 10 minutes . Then when he was 2 we had our first proper show whippet stopped showing Jasper and stopped fussing . It was a case of hats what you are getting eat it or leave it he soon started eating simply because we weren't fissing about him eating enough
