Good evening to everyone. A little advice please?? ZORRO and Bramble are now 14 weeks old. They have 3 meals a day comprising tinned puppy food and small bite mixer. My other dogs are on Redmills Racer and I would like to get the pups on to it asap. Is the time right to make a gradual switch and if so how many meals per day?

Best regards

Chris

Hi Chris,

I'd wait until they were 12 months IMO, as their still growing and needing good nutrition to build their little bodies up, not to mention their immune system, hope this helps :)

I'm sure though that redmills does a dry puppy food, not 100% as they don't sell it any where I live.

I have to dissagree, Red Mills is better for your pups than any tinned food and mixer.

get them on raw meat & veg.

but surely redmills adult food doesn't have the proper vitamins and minerals a growing pup needs?

BTW I agree with you Mark on the tinned food, I have never fed this and never will, Binx is on a dry puppy complete with his raw mince mixed in and is thriving!

Chance is on a complete working greyhound dry food (which looks exactly like the redmills I had off you mark) with the odd chicken wings as a treat, Indi has an adult complete dry dog food too.

Puupys will thrive on Red Mills from weaning, it's a good all round food.

ours have Red Mills,Raw Beef, Veg, Pasta all mixed 3 times a day as much as they can eat.

Personally,i would say that tinned food & mixer id the worst thing you can give them.Like Mark says, raw meat & veg & also a good quality natural biscuit like Laughing dog.........you won't go wrong

well you learn something every day :D I must admit I'd never heard of redmills ever before, until I joined K9, and I just can't get hold of it anywhere around here!

my dogs aint keen on veg, and I have never tryed them with pasta, will give it a go though

I personally would keep my pup's on a "puppy food" wether that would be tinned or complete ......Puppy food's are designed for puppie's nutritional need's ....Like wise racing food's are for racing dog's etc .....just my personal opinion though :)

Because mine were only 10 months old, when Spry came I gave them all puppy food I have dry complete down all the time, then feed usually scramble egg for breaky, tinned food and mixer(mine are thriving on this) the reason being the girls are fine on proper meat gave it to Spry it gave her the squits, I will try again when she is a bit bigger sometimes fish. They are all doing well so if it ain't broke why fix it I say.

Got any pics for me Chris it's been ages

Thanks everyone for your comments.

More pics soon Lesley. Bramble will be down at the track this aft' watching the others. There could just be a pic of her in a racing jacket. Weighed them last night. Zorro 14lb 2oz and Bramble 15lb 6oz. What does Spry weigh?

Bye for now

Chris

She weighs 12lb 7 Chris which I thought was quite heavy but not compared to Zorro and Bramble  she's just lovely, not too kean on the lead but were getting there, I'll take some pics on Sunday at racing didn't get chance last week as it was a terrible day with deisel and Barney getting injured, here's a couple for now

She likes to be comfortable :huggles:

Red mills, [LEADER] is for puppies

While we on subject of food, what do you guys that show feed yours? Mine has a complete dry food- James wellbeloved. She looks in great condition on it but i must admit it looks pretty boring, I sometimes give her veg when we've had our dinners and pasta sometimes which she loves!

Hopefully getting a new pup soon and heard that giving a cereal breakfast with goats milk untill about ten months old is a great show conditioner, Anyone else feed this?

Bit dubious about giving to many 'extras' with feeding the complete food as well though.

we are hopefully getting our new pup very soon and we are also having the what food shall we give debate!!

any info / advice would be gratefully received

I use Nature Diet and Skinners complete food. Also like to give them scrambled egg and goats milk.

I feed tripe, beef, chicken wings,a small amount of Laughing dog biscuit & veggies. They sometimes have rice or pasta & there's usually a few marrow bones on the go.

We feed Red mills. They also have raw tripe, Wagg worker mixed with a little tinned meat just for a little flavour.

BTW Red Mills do a puppy complete which we feed our puppies on it is excellent.
