right first off me pup 8 weeks been here since sat 22 april. i had food of the breeder he gave me enough to last a couple of weeks mixed with the food i have brought .

i brought irams complete just feed dry thats all yer need ,

i asked the vet and she said same.

now me mate pups as being brought up on raw meat as chicken wings every day and she looks well .

so i been thinking if i give skye raw chicken every morning this as got to be good and she would be getting a very good diet. i,m planning on useing chcken wings ,

start of with buying 3 or 4 cut all the meat off put it in sepprate bags enough for a small meal and frezze them ,

so i can pull a bag out every night to defrost ready for the morning,

after she as got use to this in a couple of weeks i will start to give her a full chicken wings bones included fed raw , just like me mates pup .

so lads would i be doing right with this diet.

i no you never give dogs cooked chicken bones but raw should be ok . what do yer think.

cheers savageboy

I started my pup's off with raw chicken wings when they were 6 weeks old. I take the bones out of the large end, & middle bits, but give the small end bit whole with the bones left in. When they are 11 weeks old,i will leave the bones in the middle bit as well.

Just remember that you MUST freeze all raw meat for at least 48 hours before feeding it

I have been feeding my dogs on raw food for the past few months. I use raw chicken - wings, legs and carcases. I also feed lamb ribs and mince, beef mince and any offal that I can get. I also use fish, fruit and veg. I puree a combination of vegetables and mix it through mince. Same with the fruit. Its the only way mine will eat it. I buy my meat from a local butcher so it is fresh and fit for human consumption. If you do it that way then you don't have to freeze it first.

Hi savageboy!

Have a look at these links: feeding/raw diets there is quite a lot of advice on getting the balance right, and what precautions to take. I'm a big fan of raw food diets  and my two look great on it. Good luck!

You DO have to freeze ALL raw meat as Neospora can be present in even human consumption meat!!!

I recall a post on here last year where a Boxer died of neospora after eating some fresh minced beef from Tescoes (w00t)

I have fed mine a variety of raw meats without freezing it first. They have been fine. I also know a few other people that feed raw and have done for years, again without freezing all the time and their dogs are fine too.

Well that's your choice, But personally, my dogs are too precious to me to take the risk!!!

just been morrison,s and they do lamb bones with loads of meat on them they were 24p for 3 of them people by them to make stock with , they are exerlent and they are for human consumtion , as i said loads of meat on them ideal for a pup, and mine cannot just swallow them like she did the small chicken wings, . they also do 13 chicken drum sticks for£ 2. 69 and its duy one get one fre , which is loads of meat for that price , if you are doing what i,m doing what i,m doing is raw meat plus all in one food (iams) and using what hancock gave me plus mixing half a weetabix in for roufage as she as the shitz with starting raw meat , i used to use bran for that , and plenty of water , this must be a good diet for her as she is getting a good mixture and she need,s it as a pup to get a good stat of in life

cheers savageboy :D

Would this be to kill off bacteria alfyn? My puppys breeder recommended feeding raw meat but my vet disagreed with her due to the bacterial content. I would like to introduce more raw meat as I think it would be more beneficial than a lot of the rubbish found in many commercial canned foods.

I've been looking into feeding a raw diet and found the links interesting and useful.

Do many of you use the pre-packed frozen foods such as Natures Menu and the like thats already minced or do you think its best to get it from a butchers and chop it up or mince it yourself?

I've found some recipes for raw food for the dogs

http://www.naturalpetcare.co.uk/nutrition/dogrecipe.html

They sound like they are tasty for the dogs.

Hope I don't sound too thick here but although I've read loads about this, I'm still worried about getting the combination right and my girls not getting enough of what they need...

Any more suggestion??

You must freeze or cook beef before giving to your dogs. If you dont you stand a big chance of losing your dogs to neospora. My Indy whippet had Neospora and was one of the few to survive it and only because I have such a good vet who treated him so quickly. He did however have a relapse and died a lot earlier than he should have.

This is not a scare story this is fact. :(

good recipes in that link, the oats and eggs would be great for breakfast!

Does anyone know where I can get bonemeal supplement? I've googled but a lot of it isn't for consumption, just fertilizer.
