These days everyone should have a firewall on their PC if they're connecting to the Internet. Windows XP SP2 has its own firewall which should just about be ok. Most AntiVirus software today comes as a complete package of AV, firewall, web filter etc.

Here I run a hardware firewall - a seperate PC dedicated to providing the firewall with Smoothwall (www.smoothwall.org). You just need an old PC that's good for nothing else :)) . It works really well and has been going continuously now for several years 8)

Hope that's ok... I chap I know bought Norton AV off Ebay a couple of weeks ago - but when he tried to register it he found out that it was a ripped off copy & Norton wouldn't register it.
