We took our Whips to their first race training session last night and we had a great time. They had a couple of runs each, Jas and Inky were well into chasing the lure but Hazel was a bit worried but had a good run in the general direction the lure was going in anyway

We noticed that when people ran their dogs against others they had to where muzzels, should we look into geting some as we will be going back quite regulary as us and the dogs had such a good time. :D

8) Hello there, you enjoyed it then! If your training session was at Fordingbridge then you can ask Sue if she could bring some muzzles for you to try on the dogs, or you can contact Greyhound Megastores and buy them. :luck:

Thanks I will ask Sue next week.

How does racing work as I've no idea. Do you train your dogs to get the lure and then work them up to racing against each other ( we have 3 ).

Where do you go from there

Thanks

Simon

Hi Simon

Welocme to whippet racing - the best ever pastime!

All whippets competing must wear muzzles, so you could do with getting some. Normally while they're training though, we don't bother - then when they're really keen to chase (which they soon will be), you can put a muzzle on, and they won't even notice. They only have to wear muzzles when racing with other dogs, so unitl you get to run your with others you will be ok.

Good luck - and enjoy!
