Well, I'm not experienced with breeding, but I am going through our first time with it right now. But yes...I would say 'missing the target' is normal. Dog are keen, excited and in a rush to 'deliver'...nobody is perfect each and every time ;) Particularly if the dog is not that experienced with these things..it takes practice....;)
As for 'how many times'...there is many different approaches to this. I was told that as long as the bitch is keen and accepts it, it can be done several times given a day or two in between for the dog to rest and get the semen levels up again...and if I remember right, this was what my 'book of bitch' say as well.
My girl had two good ties couple of days apart, day 8 and day11 so we left it to that. It is of course late for you now, but there is canine ovulation tests available to target the mating to exact egg releasing 'slot' in the bitch's season....something to consider should things not work out for you this time round.
Thank you for your advice it’s nice to hear xx

I got the tests done via pet genetics which is approved by KC which came back all clear for PRA etc
they tied twice now
You had them hip & elbow scored as well of course. & tested for patella luxatation.?

What does the "etc" cover ?
Would love to see what breeding they are, are they Kc registered? what are their Kc Registered names.
It's always exciting when someone here is expecting puppies, do you have any pictures of mum and dad to be, have you any Idea what colours to expect?

.

Yes like I said my vet has guided me on all the tests for poodles and yes I done everyone of them
Do you want to see the results !!

Would be interested to see the hip/elbow scores & Patella status

4:4
And 1 grade
:)))
And yes PRA clear
Which dog scored 4:4 & elbow scored 1? as both dogs should be tested or are they both the same?

You do realise the BVA advise against breeding from any dog with an Elbow score above 0 don't you?

Is your GP vet a BVA panellist or an orthopedic specialist

Actually on KC website it states this
Ideally dogs with grade 0 elbows should be chosen for breeding and dogs with a score of 2 or 3 should not be used for breeding.
I’m not getting in a debate with anyone on hear I’ve already seen a pattern for this
But thank you for all your advice
I’ve done all the right things and not taken anything lightly I won’t be replying now as I do have other things to be doing.
Thanks again take care everyone

The KC site is not a veterinary site. The BVA is & it clearly states that dogs with elbow scores that are above 0 should not be bred from & they run the BVA/KC elbow scoring scheme. I know who I would be guided by. Elbow dyspasia is more genetically linked than HD.
Few GP vets have indepth knowledge of ED or HD, I wouldn't want a GP vet to do a hip or elbow replacement on any of my dogs, I even had one diagnose one of my dogs with severe HD, when he had in fact he has a pulled muscle & a hip score of 3:3.!!!

Enough already! CoCo2014, I'm leaving your post up as it has useful and important info for anyone else reading, but am within a whisker of locking this thread.

Hi everyone so first things first my girl is booked for the vets on Monday I just wanted to see if anyone had any opinions on this
So her last tie was last Wednesday 4th
Today I noticed she was cleaning herself a lot so I dabbed a tissue and there was a tiny bit of brown. Is this normal post mating?
She’s eating a lot and generally well in herself and extra cuddly. However she has been dry heaving. I’m really just seeing if anyone has experienced this and hoping they tell me everything was fine. I’ve attached a photo of the tissue
thank you in advance for anyone who replies
