Following on from the thread about a possible reaction to Frontline, I'm just interested to know what flea treatments people use and how often.

I used to treat regularly with Frontline Spot On every 3 months or so, but really wasn't happy with using chemicals to that extent. Then the vet's recommendations changed to treatment every 2 months, and most recently every month. This seems to me completely OTT, and last year I decided to stop treating routinely.

In the end I used Frontline once on the spring, as that seems to be a very active time for fleas, and one more treatment in late summer - mainly because we get a lot of ticks around here at that time of year :x Other than that I just kept an eye open for any problems - and didn't see a single flea - so will probably do the same this year.

Just interested in other peoples' experience, and also any non-chemical treatments or preventatives that people have found effective.

we only treat for fleas as and when needed, then we use frontline spray giving a quick spray down the top of the back.

never had any problems doing that (we worm every 3 months useing Drontal+)

I do exactly the same as you Fee Fee & if I ever see a lone flea on any of the animals I pick it off & squish it :x

I also give the dogs garlic tablets about 3 times a week which may help to keep fleas at bay

i use the Frontline Combo spot on once a month.....but only going to use Frontline spray every other month from now on after talking to the vet earlier.

we worm every three months but i use Panacur now since all five dogs were severely ill after taking Drontal+. prior to that i had used Drontal regularly.

If i thought any of mine had a flea,i just go over them with a flea comb

Don't use any type of treatment and have never had fleas (touch wood!)

Wouldn't put chemicals on them unnecessarily. JMHO! :)
