I have just been admiring my lovely old Holly as she lay on her blanket in the garden  imagine my horror to see a FLEA crawl into her coat. An inspection has revealed a small amount of flea dirt around her tail area (w00t) :(

Having checked the other dogs, 2 of them (who shall remain anonymous 8) ) also have a small amount of flea dirt, but the other 3 don't. (Fleas mustn't like FAWNS either :- " )

We've never had fleas before - I'm mortified. How do we treat it? I've frontlined Holly just now and will have to go out and get some more tomorrow, and I'm about to stuff all the bedding etc in the wash - is there anything else I should do? I'm lucky that I have no carpets apart from one rug in the lounge, so I'm hoping they havent found anywhere to infest.

(I cant stop scratching now :x )

Awflea sorry to start another flea post - and I'm afraid to say that any I do find will be terminated :nuke: but it will be a quick death o:)

It will be this hot burst of weather Rae, have they caught any rabbits lately??... I know some peeps on here dont like Frontline...but I personally swear by it... I do my lot evry 4-6 months because I was once overun by the little critters a fews years back.....never again....I thought I could even hear them at night in my room.... (w00t) :)

I have cats too who regularly hunt and other methods simply dont kill them, so its Frontline Combo for me...

Thank goodness no carpets - I remember laying on the carpet reading the paper once when a flea hopped onto the page :b vile! That was before dogs, when we had cats, and you could still get NuvanStayKill or whatever poisonous offerings there were back them days

There might be some tips here: scroll to section 2 - fleas, the nightmare!

Good luck

Yes - Supe is very pleased with himself as he did catch a rabbit last week, and Star amazed us by actually moving and catching a squirrel - either could have had fleas :luck: Supe is constantly on the look out for rabbits now , they are even better than phesants apparently :teehee:

Thanks for the link Helen - I did have a quick peek in FAQ and must have missed it :b

It was hard to find anyway, Rae! FAQ's getting a bit crowded. I have trouble finding stuff, and I put it all there!!

I just remembered that we were advised to flip our sofa over and spray it underneath as well as on top  the little beasts get everywhere!

Well - guess I'll be washing dog beds and sofa covers tomorrow then :(

wash at 60 rae, spray all the house top to bottom with a 6mth lasting spray , they do a good one in pets at home, wash all soft furnishings or spray, treat the pets with flea treatment, what you need to do is break the cycle and prevent further criitters appering, when using the spary please prtect any fish you have as its deadly, get the spray into all the nooks and crannies and any cracks in flooring

I've hoovered and sprayed all the nooks and crannies (w00t)

Some of the dog beds cant be washed at 60 - only 40 so I hope they'll be OK :sweating:

We used Anvantix on all but Holly and there were dead fleas dropping off within a couple of hours. I'll know to the leave the washing of bedding till the day after next time! It's worked much quicker than frontline :nuke:

Still scratching tho

I took my two to the vets last week for their MOT and whilst the Vet was weighing Sparky I noticed a black bit on Dylan's back and it was a flea. I picked it off and gave it back to the vet and said it must be hers as we didn't have any. It made we wonder how many other longer coated breeds came home with them.!!!

the vibration of the hoover also awakes the fleas, so be sure to put a flea collar inside the hoover bag and doubly wipe out the pesky critters!!!

I work in a pet shop and we sell loads of flea product's but the first thing we tell people to buy is the house hold spray you can do the dogs as much as you like but if the house isn't done then it's pointless. We have also had some good report's about the new 4flea's tablet's one woman said while picking a puppy she gave it a tablet and the flea's were droping off dead in the car on the way home. I also bath my dog's every week in a flea shampoo whick seem's to keep them at bay.
