Hi,

We went over to the in laws again last night, we did a bit of training on the lead and it was too much for all involved, after tea they just zonked out!

Lise

PS if your whippet is doing something you don't want him to do i.e. eating stones, how do you normally go about telling him off - firm voice or ignore them.

Definitely for Me anyways, a firm voice and NO ......NAUGHTY :- " DOSNT ALWAYS WORK MIND YOU. (w00t)

Depends what it is really. Rolling in nasty things, sharp 'no' usually does the trick. If it's catching me a bullock for dinner, a really loud 'Noooooooooo!', which has no effect whatsoever. :sweating:

If you can distract them from the naughty thing, e.g. by changing direction on your walk or producing a toy, it's usually a better tactic. If they are playing with something nasty you can then remove it more easily; chasing after yelling 'give it here' usually has the opposite effect.

Lovely dogs - I can't believe either are every naughty :- "

If you ignore them how will they ever work out that its wrong? :)

I don't know. Some sorts of 'bad' behaviour may be to do with trying to seek attention, in which case not reacting to it might be the best approach. Other times, a firm 'no' is required. Our cat was brilliant at training ours, she said 'no' with a big hiss every time he was being a bit rough as a puppy; he would stop immediately. (w00t)

I agree with Elizabeth - showing too much displeasure can all too easily turn the most casual poo-eating into a GREAT game! (w00t)

And Borzois ....

If you've lived with a siamese cat you learn to ignore just about everything, from roof-ridge walking to tax-return eating; it's all a cunning ploy to get you to drop everything and worship at their alter. Whippets are just sooooo easy in comparison

Borzois - double
