Hi,

We went to dog training last night (KC training) and Floyd did really well, I wasn't so good though, I am not keen on dragging dogs about on a lead

All I really want is to be able to recall him so I can let him run off the lead (tips welcome, as I can't wait to see him run freely)

I found it terrifying to let Star off her lead when she was a puppy - I was convinced she'd just run off and never be seen again, or a bird of prey would get her :b (Me, neurotic? :clown: )

Anyway - practice in the garden first, and then make sure you let him off somewhere safe and quite boring so they are not so many distractions for the first few times until you think he is reliable, take some treats, and a squeeky toy. Always praise him for coming back to you.

I've never been to ringcraft so I dont know what they teach at all - but it might be worth trying some clicker training classes for recall practice?

We also played the 'recall game' where a few of us stand in different places and call the dog, ask them to sit and give them a treat. It teaches recall, and also not jumping up when they meet new people :thumbsup:

It's also very handy to teach a dog to stay!

anyway, I used food to condition my whippet pup to return to me when off lead.. He knows I carry biscuits in my pocket and he usually comes running when I call. It's important to do this a number of times during a ramble, not only when you want to put the dog back on lead. But now I have to stop my dog jumping up at other people's pockets as he hopes everyone has food for him!
