Only just seen this Nicola ..... sending positive thoughts for Fred and lots of :huggles: and :luck:

Another thing that can cause weakness in the hind end is liver problems .... it may be worth querying this as I had no idea about the effects a malfunctioning liver can produce until I lost my very dearly loved GSD to cancer of the liver. She had weaking of her hind end and the vet assumed age related arthritis. Sadly, it was not the case.

Thinking of you and Fred x

what kind of specialist is he going to see?  I wouldn't so much be looking for a sighthound vet, as a neurologist who had a cardiologist on hand - or at least someone who works in a specialist referral centre and has a diploma in their relevant specialism, not just a certificate.
Mind you, a lot of sighthounds have what's called a 'sinus arrhythmia' where there's an irregularity that disappears under exercise. It's common in racehorses too.  Anything other than that needs to be checked, but arrythmias (dysfunctional rhythm) isn't always a big issue - it depends what it is and why it's there.

what part of the country are you in?

and

how old is Fred?

and

what's his breeding?

good luck

e (who was a veterinary anaesthetist in her deep and distant past)

Hi, I'm in N Derbyshire, near Buxton. Fred is 11.5 yrs and he's a pedigree whippet, of the smaller type. He's off to see a cardiologist vet in a week and a half. Not sure if they have a diploma or not. I'm going to get the heart thing checked out first, although I've got some doubts I must admit. But I can't ignore the vet's advice.

Once that examination is over i'm going to seek a vet who knows a bit more about whippets/running dogs to get a 2nd opinion on his back legs/corn.

Oh ...I hadn't thought about the liver. I hope not. Thanks for the warning though.

poor Fred :huggles: hope if it is a corn removal will cure his limp. Awful when they can't tell you in wwords what they're going thro' isn't it. Sending lots of :luck: :huggles: to you both and hoping it's something easily fixed so little Fred can be back to him normal gentleman self :huggles:

Poor Fred and poor you, Nicola. I do hope you get things sorted out soon. :huggles: :luck: :huggles:

Best of luck for the visit to the specialist, I hope they can sort out whatever is wrong and get him feeling better soon :luck: :huggles:

So sorry to hear that Fred's under the weather. Hope he's sorted out soon and that it's "only" a corn. :huggles: :luck:
