Hello. New here because I need help. My French Bulldog who is nearly 7 has suffered many years with digestive issues. After £4k worth of "investigative" tests they came back inconclusive and the vet simply recommended a hypoallergenic diet. He is on the Hills wet food and Purina dry and this seemed to be going OK, but recently he won't eat much and when he does, often brings it back up.
He is also shivering a lot, moves around a lot as if in discomfort and rarely spends a whole night asleep.
I can't afford to keep taking him to the vet only for them to take money and not provide solutions. So it brings me here. What can I feed my poor frenchie that will boost his weight, be sensitive on his stomach and hopefully restore him back to loving life again.

I know you don't want to throw good money after bad but has your vet ever suggested a referral to a specialist?

Have you tried a raw diet ....or trying a fish based diet ..

Did your vet rule out acid reflux, presumably? Frenchies are prone to this, as are other brachycephalic breeds... as @Tinytom suggested, maybe try white fish(not oily fish) and boiled potatoes( you could probably add steamed veg slowly if the fish and pots goes down). This would be gentle and easy to digest. And offer smaller meals more often maybe?
My neighbour rescued a frenchie and he has a super sensitive digestion too,(as well as pretty much all the other issues a frenchie has!) He has a list of foods as long as your arm that he must avoid. One that does suits him though is a Forthglade wet food in a tray. Might be worth having a look at what they can offer with regards to hypoallergenic foods.

I would at least ring your vet though and describe his symptoms as he does sound really uncomfortable. It could be as simple as being prescribed some kind of antacid, fingers crossed! ( presuming of course this hasn't already been tried...)

You could also ask the opinion of another vet practice

Unfortunately there are not many of our vets that are qualified to prescribe food for our dogs!
Please do consider changing your vet to another practice or even better, a Holistic vet will probably have more interest and knowledge in an appropriate food/diet that could help.
