I have a 10 Month old GSD bitch who came into season at seven and half months on 4th March. On 15th May her vulva was swollen and she bled on 16th May. I took her to Vet (I was on holiday, so not my usual Vet) who said it looked like a typical season, but could not answer my question on "Why only 10 weeks since last one?".

I have spoken with her breeder who has no knowledge of this happening in the line before.

Any feedback will be appreciated

Maybe her first one wasn't a proper season? Does seem strange, but maybe as she's young perhaps the hormone level wasn't quite enough the first time. Did the first one last 3 weeks, and did her vulva swell then?

It's always a good idea to keep an eye on them after a season, but the vet didn't seem to be worried, so probably you shouldn't either. Good luck with her, I'm sure she will become more regular next time.

It was definitely a proper season last time. My entire dog started taking an interest even before her vulva swelled. It lasted a little over 3 weeks. I did not allow my dog anywhere near her for 2 weeks after she'd finished.

I am aware of the possibility of pyometra because my last GSD developed this just after her first season.

This is definitely season, same interest from my dog - even to howling! :( The discharge is clearly blood with no evidence of infection.

I will take her for blood tests to determine hormone levels.

Might be best to have her spayed.....

It could just be coincidence, but I have a friend with a young GSD bitch with frequent seasons (always followed by false pregnancies). It might be an idea to investigate further whether this is a common problem within the breed, and in that case whether it will pass, or what experience others have with treatment.

My Dobe was the same. Frequent seasons with very bad phantoms inbetween. We decided to have her speyed because it was becoming quite a problem for her. :(

Hope things are okay for your girl :)
