I have just gutted, skinned and roughly jointed a nice roadkill Fallow youngster (last years youngster).
I had a phone call from a friend saying that it was on the road (dead) and where it was.
Quickly jumped in the car and collected it.
The back end and pelvis are completely smashed but that won't worry the girls, it is so fresh that it is very warm and the blood is still running. I will try to share the stomach tonight between 6 dogs, (it is not very big once empty). And fresh venison for all of them this evening

A very good find !
Especially as it was soo fresh and still hot.
We haven't used that particular bit of road for over a week as we have kept dog walks much closer to home, (it could have gone to waste), it was just lucky that a stalker friend of ours was good enough to give me a ring after passing it. I had not long been up and hair was not combed, had not even had my first cup of tea, (1 of 3 ) I didn't even think to put a coat on, brrr. .
I now have all day to cut it up into individual 8oz sizes including all bones and freeze it.

I am pretty certain that death was quiet quick, it must have been quiet a large vehicle that hit her.
I did stroke her and run my fingers through her lovely thick winter coat and it was warm enough to have a lovely soft hug but I didn't bother to hug her @JudyN .
On the outside she hardly looked touched but the inside rear half was very severely mangled.

I think this one was one of a pair of twins, mum had one normal coloured one and a second that looked almost black at a distance, and this is the very black/dark slate grey coloured one. They are very beautiful. Also perfect dog food.

Actually we have quiet a lot of venison in our the freezer at the moment, I do not eat it but my husband does. We did not need any for ourselves this time and as the back end was so badly bumped and bruised we didn't even offer/give any to our next door neighbor as we usually do either.
There are loads of deer in our area and a fairly fast road too, there will be more!
