I was surprised and pleased to see that "Pedigree" are not sponsoring Crufts this year.
I was a little excited to see the new sponsors were supporting "fresh" foods for our dogs.
I have had a look through their website and notice that they mention meals are grain free ( that's quiet positive) but when looking a little further at the ingredients used I see that rice is used quiet a lot in their ingredients and rice is a grain!
Rice is also guilty of creating reported allergies for some of our dogs.

Should this company who are sponsoring Crufts be advertising that their products are Grain free, when they are quiet clearly NOT !

Having said all that the "Freshpet" product looks far better than the Pedigree stuff.

Is the problem with grains more about gluten though? As I understand it, when dogs evolved from the common ancestor they had with wolves, dogs developed the enzyme that allows them to digest gluten; albeit not necessarily well - so a lot of dogs still struggle with it. Wolves didn't.

But rice is gluten free, and we often see it recommended as a gentle food for upset tummies.

If your concerns are about the labelling, that's a good point. You might want to raise it with Freshpet, Trading Standards and the Advertising Standards Authority.

Where in the website does it say that their food is grain free (as opposed to them having grain free varieties)? I can't see it on a quick look.

Everywhere I am looking I see "Freshpet as a "Grain Free" Product ! Yet when looking for "Freshpet" ingredients I notice that there are included in some of their ingredients BROWN RICE!
An Overview;
"Freshpet" dog food recipes vary but generally feature ingredients like, Beef, Chicken, eggs, peas, carrots, and BROWN RICE.
Further searching online I have found information ;
Sustainably made with humanely raised grass-fed Beef, Brown Rice and veg.
Whole grains.
No rendered by-products or meat meals.

I am finding their general information very confusing with mixed information.
Maybe anyone with any interest in this product should do some homework before making a purchase if looking for a Grain Free product!
