Hi all, hope this weather has not put anyone off from comming along to the Fun Day next Sunday, as we are all prepared to get out there ,rain hail or snow   [preferably sunshine]

Graham- Jill-Peter-Duncan-George, have been putting so much work into looking after the race track and field.

Staying back to-day to continue the hard work, as it is ongoing to keep the track

and field for all of us racers.

I do appreciate them lots :huggles: :huggles:

Would all members of the committee please contact myself to see if we can have hands on this Saturday all members also, to make sure everything is up to scratch for our big day on Sunday, this would be much appreciated.

If you can spare a few hours on Saturday please come along to the field around 12am.

Hope to see everyone, visitors, families and friends with there pets next Sunday for a guaranteed BRILLIANT DAY. (w00t) (w00t) (w00t)

We'll be there, and we've heard from a couple of Beagle owners that haven't yet tried the racing and they plan to come. So I think there are going to be lots of Beagle puppies running around on the day!

We're really looking forward to it!

It's just a pity there's not a beagle vs whippets race. Beanie's been doing some secret training and she's pretty confident she could take them on :- "

We're coming down... :) really looking forward to it. a grand day out!

Poor Gary... :( hope he's feeling better soon. I was the same as a kid, swear I spent half my holidays in casualty, falling off something or crashing something.

Maybe see you if he's feeling better eh?

Hi

It would be nice to come but we are having a much needed weekend away that weekend, Not been at racing at all this summer so it would be nice to catch up. Not that we would do the showy bit dont like that idea lol Neither does Megan she is more happy running

We could of entered Holly in the ferret racing

When we get back Megan is booked in to be spayed so i cant see her being fit to run at all this year.

Maybe next year

Hope everyone has a good day and the weather stays dry at least lol

Is the track holding out OK with all the wet weather we've been having?

Hi - we enjoyed our trip along to the fun day this afternoon. Unfortunately we couldn't stay as long as we would have liked 'cos Ian's between night shifts. Great day though and the weather couldn't have been better. Blue enjoyed meeting lots of other hounds.

Thanks,

Jill, Ian and Blue

Ah it was Blue... :) you know how you recognise folks' whippets at these things. I think you must have been just on your way away when I thought to myself that dog looks familiar and I thought it might have been you guys. Sorry we didn't get to say hello :( .

Well done to all the winners and a huge thanks to everyone involved in organising and settin up another great day. It was a brilliant day out, and the weather was very kind to us, the sun always shines on the Caley Thistle whippets (and beagles and lurchers and podengos and parson terriers and labradors and ferrets (w00t) ).

see yous next year

Sorry to post this question here, but I don't have the necessary permissions to start a new thread.

Can anyone tell me whether gender (and size for that matter) is typically an issue in Whippet racing? Do boys tend to dominate?

I know it's good to be strong and light, but does that mean little dogs tend to do better - or vise-versa?

In the Beagle racing it tends to be the big boys that dominate, but our little Beanie is holding her own against them and getting faster every week. I'm wondering whether we should expect that to continue as she matures (she's 10 months old right now).

She loves the racing and has a very competetive nature. She really thrives on competition and does get a real buzz out of taking on a faster dog. Once she gets to a year old we plan to start training her for speed as we think she'll enjoy it.(Currently we just give her plenty of opportunity to run and play with other dogs).

I'm just wondering what to expect with a little bitch as she matures. We don't want to do anything that would spoil her enjoyment of racing, but we do want to give her every opportunity to be the best she can be. She's already been spayed.

Susan

Non ped whippets we find that bitch's are a wee bit faster than dogs, but with a few exceptions,,eg Predator, hillside Lad,,George's Choice (my boy) Xspell,,I could go on,,they could beet the bitch's on the day.

No idea about the kg reg whippets, but beagles are new to the racing, I believe the Calli club is the only club to race beagles (well at club level )they might race else where like the whippets,,eg champ level, ive no idea.

Im sure someone who know's a wee bit more about beagle racing will let you know as I know bugger all about them

Beanie being a pup still, should find a few more yards in the racing, as she will become stronger as she matures,,like whippets :D ,,I think :- " :b

Thanks for the info Susan! It's interesting that Bitches are faster!! I assumed that either they'd be slower or there would be no difference. Here's hoping the same holds true for Beagles :)

I think you're right - I can't find any reference to Beagle racing anywhere else. Well I guess as no precedent has been set the sky's the limit for little Beanie :)
