do you think this trait is inherited or nurtured..?

I think both too, I think all/most dogs have the instincts but how strong it becomes depends a lot on the owners as to whether they incourage or discourage it, thats just my oppinion though cos I am just a pet owner really who wouldn't do either if you know what I mean :)

I think my dogs have a stronger prey drive when out with Andy ;)

If my three are a good example I would say definitely inherited but you can help to develop the natural instinct with encouragement and training :D

Ella has inherited her all her father's traits, and Jinny is a clone of her mother in temperament, looks and working ability. Not sure about Irie yet ... he's still too young but certainly isn't showing any chase and kill instinct like the girls did - he totally ignores the cats :)

Inherited every time, though owners can quash gameness .....

Definately inherited , but frequently suppressed by many owners :- "

I think inherited too but can be encouraged or repressed. You can see it in the nest even with some puppies liking to carry things around in their mouths and ragging more than others.

sorry about ella

Owens first litter was to a very laid back bitch and she seemed to cancel out his tenacity, the pups are all bidable angels.

Ella's mum though, was half racing bred and a little livewire and the whole litter are determined little hunters that develop hearing loss when there are bunnies about

if she is owt like her dad though she'll calm down by the time she 2  :luck:
